DF=Crashes everyone on screen [Fixed, Jan 6, 2012]

So all of the active people farmed a gold skull and went to gaunt tonight. We fought DFs and they kept periodically crashing everyone on screen. It made it insane and was a pain to deal with. I am not sure how this can be fixed, maybe for the meantime take DFs out of the gauntlet loop until it's resolved? No idea what is causing it.

It was definitely the DF though, at times I had 2 chars out at DF, and they would crash, but the 3rd char in the secret room was fine. It was different combinations of characters and pets out there too. Sometimes Jackals + Cu, sometimes Cu + Reptalons, etc... so I do not believe it is tied to a specific pet.

It was on DF when we got there and we couldn't do the 2nd one cuz we kept crashing. So not sure if other ones crash.

That's odd. I ran around with a df for 15 minutes and was unable to crash my client so need more details on who was there, what they were using and casting.

Was everyone using client 7.0.18.0 (Patch 95) and razor V1.0.13?

I can only speak for myself regarding client and razor; yes to both.

We had a bunch of tamers there. lots of cu sidhes and jackals. Archers/dexxers too. I think the DF throwing bones/spawning creatures may have had something to do with it. I am not sure. Although there was some crashing in luna earlier randomly (where everyone would crash at the same time). Could be that someone has a buggy character.

My Client and Razor are fully updated.

I can't think of anything else to add to what D and I have already said. But we were definitely having crashes hit all of of the people on the same screen (Though I'm not sure who it was, I definitely had some dif chars off screen that were fine).

I've had some problems with randomly crashing in Doom also.
But I've also had it elsewhere.
I think it's mainly multi-clients being VERY prone to crashing 1 or all of them.
Seems worse the more stuff that is going on/more people around etc.
Only had this problem with the new client, older one, pre-update, never did it.

Interesting. Though I am not sure if that is the cause, because one person with use was not multi-clienting and they were crashing constantly also.

To test Bubble's theory, I used a single client to do gauntlet. I did the DF, rooms 1, 2, and 3, and then I got to shadow knights.....

I got each of them to half life, they ported and hid (as they should.) And then the crashing fiesta began. I would not even have time to track + detect hidden before I crashed, and so I couldn't get out of the room. I moved my tamer and jackals into the opposite corner of where the shadow knights hid and logged out. Mind you, getting to the opposite corner took me a while due to crashing every 3-4 steps :o: .


So yeah, there is definately some problem with Doom, but no idea what the problem is. As of right now, I have had problems with DFs and Shadow Knights. Rooms 1, 2, and 3 were all fine.

This is really messed. I'd be curious to know if the same issue is on EA servers. This is a client thing, seems it's not liking some packets, maybe body values or something. Wonder if these mobs have been changed on the EA shards.

Hmm, last time I did Doom I crashed in shadow knight room also, but not repeatedly like d did, just once.

My immediate guess is that it has something to do with razor support with the newest client. There could be a particle effect or hue that would cause the client to crash so we'll look to narrow that down.

We can look into setting up a free gauntlet ride to observe what could potentially be causing the clients to crash.

Tracking.

Activating tracking causes a crash in the shadow knight room.

I ran into this the other day and forgot to post it. Sorry.

I think the tracking issue is serperate from the DF crash issue though.

I can recreate the tracking bit.

Make Shadow Knight hide. Hit Tracking, select Shadow Knight. See where its pointing to him? Good because you are crashed and can't do anything about it now.

Sounds spot on for the shadow knight problem. I still think the df problem has something to do with one of these things:
-the animation of df being discorded
-the animation of the df throwing bones
-the animation of the bones spawning into misc monsters

Confirmed.

The tracking skill is current causing client lock ups (For anything tracked, not just gauntlet) so avoid using it for the time being while we work on finding a solution. That's one cause for the gauntlet client crashing issue so if you spot anything else let us know.

So what should we do in gauntlet? Just give up when we get to dark knights?

I have found that you can

A.) Use a pet with bleed attacks, and find the blood where he is hidden.
B.) Track him, when you are frozen waiting for the game to crash, screenshot or remember where he is, and log back on and detect hidden there.

Its definitly an extreme pain in the arse. Perhaps they could disable his hiding ability until this is fixed.

yeah, i did it for a couple of rounds and just stopped because it's a pain lol.

I replaced the shadowknights with another mob temporarily (easiest fix). Once we figure out the crash issue we'll put them back.

Bug was due to a drag/drop issue. Fixed up on test and live January 6, 2012.
