Asus DirectCU II Roundup:ENGTX560, ENGTX570, and ENGTX580 @ pcper.com [Feb-01-12] (0 Comments) The ENGTX580 is in a bit of a bind. When viewed by itself oragainst other GTX 580 cards, it really proves its worth once coolingand overclocking abilities are considered. It is on the same level asthe MSI N580GTX Lightning, but it is a slightly larger card in that ittakes up three slots as compared to two. It does not match the MSIN580GTX XE, which is a 3GB card, but it is also significantly cheaper(and actually available) as compared to that other high end card.Where it stumbles is when being compared against the brand new AMD HD7970. Let’s see if one of their first offerings, the Nighthawk, is a good option. The Five Stages of Griefing:Death of the Consoles @ pcper.com [Dec-06-11] (0 Comments) Whether you desire to play on your couch, you prefer acontroller, or you want support:the console is nothing special. Iargue that service from a reputable local small business computerstore will exceed service provided by the console vendors all withoutimpeding your ability to support yourself; still, failing a decentstore nearby, there will be plenty of larger companies such as Dell,MSI, and ASUS who will be on par at the least with the service theconsole vendors could provide. The console will certainly not provideany better experience if the PC flourishes. MSI X79A-GD65 (8D) Motherboard @ hardwaresecrets.com [Dec-05-11] (0 Comments) Let’s take a look at this socket 2011 motherboard from MSI based on the new Intel X79 chipset and targeted to the new Core i7 “Sandy Bridge-E” CPUs. MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition :What a GTX 580 Should Be @ pcper.com [Aug-03-11] (0 Comments) When two of these are put together, they make one of the bestSLI/NVIDIA Surround combinations out there. While a user can purchasea GTX 590 (dual GPU card) for $150 more than the N580GTX LightningXtreme Edition, they will not get the extra memory space. Then again, purchasing two of the N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition cards will seta user back $1198 (give or take a few dollars). This card is not forthe faint of heart, or those light of wallet. Still, when consideringa high end card that *should* last quite some time, then there are fewother cards that can compete with this monster. MSI A75MA-G55 Motherboard @ hardwaresecrets.com [Jul-14-11] (0 Comments) Let’s take a look at this socket FM1 microATX motherboard from MSI based on the new AMD A75 chipset for the AMD A-Series CPUs. MSI N560GTX-Ti HAWK Graphic Card @ pcper.com [Jun-09-11] (0 Comments) MSI just keeps the hits coming on the video card front. WhileI was not overly impressed with their latest motherboard offeringsthis past month, they have kept their foot on the gas when it comes tographics. The best part about these cards is that generally they arenot that much more expensive than the reference versions. With theHAWK series this is especially true. In this case, it sits rightaround the upper-middle portion of current offerings using this GPU.MSI has created yet another outstanding video card for enthusiastseverywhere. MSI P67A-GD80 LGA 1155 ATX Motherboard @ pcper.com [Jun-07-11] (0 Comments) MSI continues to impress us with the amount of custom featuresand applications they bundle with their products. The P67A-GD80 provedto be a supreme overclocker with almost unlimited possibilities forenthusiasts who like to tweak with voltages and test the stability oftheir entire system. The addition of AMD 990FX/SB950 Release:Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX and the MSI 990FXA-GD80 @ pcper.com [Jun-02-11] (0 Comments) For now, it is nice to see that AMD has finally released theofficial chipsets and boards that will support Bulldozer. Asus took abig lead here with their SABERTOOTH product, but historically speakingMSI is not all that far behind. A few BIOS fixes and perhaps arevision, and we have a competitive part from MSI that actually costs$10 less than the rather lean and sparse TUF product. MSI R6970 Lightning :A Supercharged AMD Radeon HD 6970 @ pcper.com [May-22-11] (0 Comments) It is a tremendous design from MSI, and I am happy to say thatthey have erased the memory of the disappointing R5870 of yesteryear. It does have a price premium over a standard HD 6970, but in this caseI think the premium is well worth it. It has a good overclock rightout of the box, and the Twin Frozr III cooler is a marvel. Eventhough it does not exhaust the air outside of the case, it was soeffective in cooling the chip that it barely raised the casetemperature in the first place. MSI Z68A-GD80 (B3) Motherboard @ hardwaresecrets.com [May-16-11] (0 Comments) Let’s take a look at the most high-end socket 1155 motherboard currently offered by MSI based on the new Intel Z68 chipset. MSI 890FXA-GD65 Motherboard :The Hardcore Minimalist @ pcper.com [Apr-08-11] (0 Comments) MSI has created a fine board. It certainly appears to havehad a real teething process, but now the BIOS support has caught upand we are seeing a very fast and mature product on the marketplace. The current price makes this one of the more exciting AM3 motherboardout there, especially for the budget enthusiast. MSI has scorednicely with the 890FXA-GD65. Reply-To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Message-Id: @ techpowerup.com [Apr-01-11] (0 Comments) MSI has engineered their own version of the GeForce GTX 580 called MSI HD 6950 Twin Frozr II :Cool, Quiet, and somewhat Beastly @ pcper.com [Mar-24-11] (0 Comments) Personally I like the card. I was disappointed I could notmod it successfully to a HD 6970, but even in stock form the card isnot slow. I am doing some =93long term=94 testing on this particularmodel in my main machine, clocked at a much more mundane 900 MHz coreand 1350 MHz memory. This has provided a nice performance boost, allthe while producing less sound than the more aggressive overclock Idid while testing. So far the card has worked flawlessly at thisspeed, and it has handled every application I have thrown at it withaplomb. ASUS & MSI at CES @ techgage.com [Jan-05-11] (0 Comments) At a pressconference held well before the official CES launch, ASUS unveiled fournew Eee models, all of which are touch-enabled and can be considered Asus Crosshair IV Extreme:More Lucid for AMD @ pcper.com [Jan-01-11] (0 Comments) Asus makes a pretty mean board, and by using the Hydracontroller it is allowing multi-GPU with NVIDIA cards on the AMDplatform to continue. Eventually the older NVIDIA 980 and 750 SLIchipsets will go away, and when that happens then it is unlikely thatNVIDIA will grant AMD a SLI license for their chipsets. Asus and MSIare both investing a lot into Hydra, and with an entity the size ofAsus on board, we can expect to see much better driver support andimproved performance over the next several months. We have alreadyseen Lucid increase its driver release rate in the past six monthswith all of the support (and pushing) they are likely getting fromthese large manufacturers. MSI N430GT MD1GD3/OC/LP Video Card @ hardwaresecrets.com [Dec-08-10] (0 Comments) Let’s check the performance of this factory-overclocked card based on the latest entry-level GPU from NVIDIA, the GeForce GT 430. The reconfigured Fermi architecture of the MSI N460GTX Cyclone 768D5/OC Video Card @ hardwaresecrets.com [Aug-05-10] (0 Comments) Let’s take a look on the performance of this factory-overclocked GeForce GTX 460 from MSI. MSI N480GTX M2D15 GeForce GTX 480 @ pcper.com [Aug-05-10] (0 Comments) I believe Fermi can be a very successful architecture. Theonly problem is that it did not line up with the 28 nm process thatwill be introduced next year. In many ways the GTX 480 is more inline with the Radeon HD 2800XT than the aforementioned GeForce FX 5800in terms of designing a part a little too aggressive considering theprocess technology at hand. But the significant difference betweenthe GTX 480 and those products is that it actually performs where itshould, and is a class leader in terms of features and functionality. MSI P55A-GD65 Motherboard @ hardwaresecrets.com [Jul-28-10] (0 Comments) Let’s take a look at this socket 1156 motherboard from MSI based on Intel P55 chipset featuring SATA-600 and USB 3.0 ports. MSI H55M-ED55 LGA 1156 Micro ATX Motherboard @ pcper.com [Jul-06-10] (0 Comments) The H55M-ED55 is a great example of their commitment to qualityboards that are geared toward overclockers and gamers. We saw goodperformance results in both of these categories during testing and wereimpressed with how flexibilty and feature rich the BIOS was. The onlycomplaints we could make about it would be the lack of USB 3.0/SATA3.0support, but most boards at this price point and class do not have thesefeatures standard. The OC Genie button was a great addition and should beused frequently by novice PC builders looking to squeeze a few moremegahertz from their Intel processors. MSI 890FXA-GD70 Motherboard @ hardwaresecrets.com [Jun-12-10] (0 Comments) MSI 890FXA-GD70 is a socket AM3 motherboard based on the new AMD 890FX chipset, featuring five PCI Express x16 slots, SATA-600 and USB 3.0 ports and high-end components. MSI Big Bang XPOWER Intel X58 Motherboard @ legitreviews.com [Jun-10-10] (0 Comments) The MSI Big Bang XPower will support up to six single slot graphics cards for some hefty multi-monitor use. It also supports the latest Quad-SLI and CrossFireX technology from NVIDIA and ATI. If you are looking to do some extreme overclocking with the new Intel Core I7 980X you will need a board that can supply enough power. Under Extreme overclocking conditions the I7 980X can draw around 480 Watts, which is too much for a single 8pin cpu connector to supply. The MSI Big Bang XPower was designed for such a circumstance! The keen folks over at MSI added a second 8pin CPU connector to the Big Bang XPower! There should be no issues with power when pushing the latest processors to the maximum frequencies. They also decided to add a 6pin PCI-e which will aid when overclocking the graphics cards! ASRock 890GX Extreme3 Motherboard @ legitreviews.com [Apr-29-10] (0 Comments) I had a blast working with the ASRock 890GX Extreme3 motherboard. If you look only at performance numbers the ASRock 890GX Extreme3 outperformed the MSI 785GM-E65 in the majority of the tests. Though there is much more to the ASRock 890GX Extreme3. The features that the ASRock 890GX Extreme3 offers, are key points that should be taken into consideration as well. The True Blu-ray when using the integrated Radeon HD 4290 will play back your Blu-ray movies in full 1080p with 24bit/192KHz sampling in 7.1 surround sound. The True 333 capabilities of the ASRock 890GX Extreme3 almost speaks for itself. MSI has taken a bigstep above nearly everyone else and produced a unique and outstandingoffering for the $150 to $199 price range. MSI steps up the price with their P55-GD65 which sits closer to the average price, quality and feature-set for a P55 motherboard. EVGA bumps the price up into the enthusiast price-range while offering a board geared primarily towards overclocking enthusiasts in the EVGA P55 FTW. Lucid HYDRA 200 Details and Interviews with AMD, Lucid & NVIDIA @ legitreviews.com [Sep-30-09] (0 Comments) The demo that we were shown behind closed doors was of course an MSI Big Bang motherboard that was running Windows 7 and ATI Radeon HD 4890 and GeForce GTX 260 graphics cards at the same time with both cards being load balanced. Notice that the Lucid HYDRA 200 load balancing solution has no interconnects, bridges, external dongles or adapters that are needed. Both cards were running fine and we were able to change which card had the monitor output on it from the Windows 7 desktop, which was pretty slick. Lucid gave us a chance to try out PC Game titles F.E.A.R. 2:Project Origin and Bioshock to see what the future of scalable graphics looks like with the Hydra 200. We must admit that we were fairly impressed with what we saw as the technology appeared to be working without any issues on these two game titles... MSI X340 Slim Core 2 Solo Notebook @ legitreviews.com [Sep-30-09] (0 Comments) The MSI X340 Slim notebook surprised me a bit. It has an innovative design that makes it have a professional, sleek look and it does not lose functionality for the sake of style. The keyboard is large, and the keystrokes are soft and comfortable. The touchpad is in an awkward place, but I am glad that it can be turned off with a function key. From the student who likes to take notes on a laptop to those that like style along with an ultra-portable solution, the MSI X340 Slim notebook fits the bill... Lucid HYDRA Multi-GPU Technology Launches - End of SLI and @ pcper.com [Sep-23-09] (0 Comments) Lucid and MSI are teaming to announce the MSI N285GTX Superpipe OC GeForce GTX 285 @ pcper.com [Sep-17-09] (0 Comments) What we can walk away with at the end of the review is that MSI hasproduced a pretty tremendous card. The build quality is excellent, thecooler design works just as it is supposed to, and the NVIDIA GTX 285 is avery good chip that provides a very good gaming and entertainmentexperience. The slight overclock did not affect stability, and the tad ofextra performance was appreciated. Though we have become spoiled by highend cards in the $199 to $249 range, there still exist products above thatwhich can actually deliver more performance. MSI Wind Top AE2010 Desktop @ benchmarkreviews.com [Sep-15-09] (0 Comments) Desktop computers are making a resurgence, and have exploited the compact nature of newer technology to provide the best of both worlds. MSI HD 4890 Cyclone SOC 1 GB GDDR5 @ techpowerup.com [Aug-29-09] (0 Comments) MSI's HD 4890 Cyclone SOC is the fastest model of the Cyclone Series. As an extra feature a native HDMI connector has been added in case you want to connect the card to your big TV screen. MSI GeForce GTX 260 Lightning Graphics Card @ tweaktown.com [Aug-28-09] (0 Comments) It's been a while since we've seen anything from MSI, but they're back with a vengeance today working on the well known and much loved GTX 260. Carrying with it a new Lightning tag that we haven't seen from the company before, we'll see what exactly MSI have going on here. To be completely honest, considering the age of the GTX 260 MSI really have to bring us something special to wow us. Since the launch of the card we've seen many companies attack the model and we've seen some big clocks, fancy coolers and good bundles offered. World-Exclusive:MSI N275GTX Lightning GTX 275 1792 MB @ techpowerup.com [Aug-15-09] (0 Comments) MSI's latest addition to their Lightning Series is the N275GTX Lightning with 1792 MB memory and a new Twin Frozr II dual 80 mm fan cooler. Being targeted at overclockers it is overclocked out of the box of course. All this sounds like a noisy card? Nope, on the contrary, the card is actually the quietest card in its performance class, by far. MSI P55-GD65 Lynnfield Motherboard Video Unboxing and P @ tweaktown.com [Aug-09-09] (0 Comments) Even though Intel isn’t officially launching its upcoming Core i5 and Core i5 Lynnfield core processors and P55 Express chipset until the second week of September, there is already much talk about the next generation mainstream performance platform around Taiwan. In the spirit of getting an early look at upcoming hardware, MSI sent us its P55-GD65 motherboard for an exclusive video unboxing and preview. Watch the video below for the full down-low of the new product. MSI AMD 785GM-E65 Motherboard P @ pcper.com [Jul-31-09] (0 Comments) Perhaps the most interesting little feature about this board is theinclusion of a dipswitch which controls FSB overclocking. There are foursettings which can take the FSB from stock speed, up through 10%, 15%, and20% overclock. While the FSB can be controlled in the BIOS as well, it isinteresting to see a motherboard manufacturer go back to dipswitchoverclocking. I thought we got over that after the K6 and Athlon days?Still, an interesting little wrinkle that could appeal to a certain group ofpeople. MSI 770 C45 - XSs @ xsreviews.co.uk [Jul-29-09] (0 Comments) MSIare a big brand when it comes to motherboards and they've receivedworld wide regard for their P35 motherboards. Since then, noteverything has gone their way, though, with some critics disappointedwith their P45 range in part down to the BIOS configuration. However, MSI have never been one to roll over and they have comefighting back with their AM3 boards. Although AMD’s 45nm processors andDDR3 memory has now been out for a while, they are still very much‘new’ and the launch of MSI’s 770-C45 motherboard coincided nicely withthe release of the new hardware. AMD, although perhaps not fully competing with Intel on performance, have introduced some great bang for buck CPUs which coupled with theplummeting price of DDR3 seem like a great combination. That then begsfor a suitable motherboard to step forward and be counted. Enter MSI’s770-C45. Although looking down the list of specifications, it mightlook a little thin on the ground in term of features, if the hype isanything to go by, this could be a great piece of kit. MSI 790FX-GD70 Socket AM3 Motherboard @ legitreviews.com [Jul-06-09] (0 Comments) We have the opportunity to look at another AMD Socket AM3 motherboard in our review today. This one is the 790FX-GD70 from MSI and it is poised to be the flagship motherboard of the AM3 lineup for MSI. MSI has been around for quite some time, and so it is no stranger to competing in the motherboard business. This board sports the 790FX/SB750 combination of chipsets, so it is the best that you can get now in the AM3 scene. It also has a total of four X16 PCIE slots, so it is ready for a multi-GPU setup to take gaming to its graphical extremes... MSI Wind U100 Netbook Overclocking Guide @ legitreviews.com [Jul-01-09] (0 Comments) Once the dynamic overclock setting has been enabled you then must pick the percentage of the overclock. You can select a CPU overclock of either 8%, 15% or 24%, for a maximum overclock of 2GHz. Once the percentage picked you just load the operating system like normal and use the Wind U100. When you are ready for a little more processor power you just need to press Fn+F10, and 'Turbo' mode will be enabled. You have to be plugged into AC power for the setting to work and you should see one of the above icons when you enable or disable the feature. Our MSI Wind U100 was unstable with an overclock of 24% due to instability of the memory module. That means the highest overclock that could be reached was 15%, which is still a great overclock on the Intel Atom N270 processor.... MSI Wind U100-641US 10-inch Netbook @ legitreviews.com [Jun-29-09] (0 Comments) The MSI Wind U100-641US 10 MSI Eclipse Plus X58 LGA 1366 Motherboard @ pcper.com [Jun-17-09] (0 Comments) A couple features that really stood out with the MSI Eclipse Pluswas its ability to support quad CrossfireX and SLI video card configurationsand having all three PCI-E slots capable of x16 speeds. This is fairlysignificant because most boards have that third PCI-E slot set at x8 or x4speeds. The onboard OC dial and other buttons were a great addition, especially for those of us who swap out our hardware often. the OC dialseemed to work as advertised, but we did have a problem with stability whenwe tried to push it too far. MSI GeForce GTX 295 Graphics Card @ tweaktown.com [Jun-08-09] (0 Comments) Since the launch of the GTX 295 ATI has done little to combat the card and while the HD 4890 is a very good card, the price of it doesn't put it anywhere near the level that the GTX 295 is at, nor the GTX 285 for that matter. It's been a while since we've had a look at the GTX 295 and there's been a few driver updates since then. Today we'll be seeing how it performs against some of the top single GPU cards from both NVIDIA and ATI including the HD 4890 and GTX 285. Intel shows "Clarkdale" system with on-chip GPU @ tweaktown.com [Jun-03-09] (0 Comments) Computex Taipei 2009:Even though the forthcoming “Clarkdale” based Socket 1136 Core i5 processors with on-chip GPU are not due to go on sale until sometime early next year, they had a little system running out at their Nangang booth which is of great interest to us. The motherboard used was a pre-production MSI P57 board with model number H57-ED65 and the system was running very smoothly and even the board looks fairly advanced for an early sample, so it probably means Intel will be able to stick to its launch date of an early Q1 2010 go time. This put the final clock frequency at 3.82GHz, which is an overclock of 1,222MHz. The ASUS M4A79T Deluxe was also able to run 8GB of Corsair DOMINATOR DDR3 memory at 1333MHz with CL9 timings like a champ. Even increasing the memory frequency up to 1600MHz the board would still run four 2GB DDR3 modules with no stability issues, which is a good sign that the BIOS is already pretty solid on this motherboard... MSI's Eclipse SLI X58 motherboard @ bit-tech.net [Dec-08-08] (0 Comments) */This board is killing me because I want to like so much as the MSI team has clearly put in incredible effort and risk into designing the Eclipse SLI. Since just the P45 generation six months ago, so much has changed for the better which we need to give MSI credit for - the GreenPower core is excellent, the D-LED 2 is a good evolution, the board looks fantastic, it's stable with 12GB of memory and it's finally got a compelling market niche. The problem is that it's only 95 percent of the way there and it still needs attention to tidy up the loose ends - the BIOS and the software needs work, the cooling isn't wonderful, the D-LED 2 can evolve further, the X-Fi is either love or hate and the GreenPower Genie can go in the bin. The card has performed well in Folding@Home and in Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare. Of course, I didn’t try to push the card to ridiculous resolutions, as gamers that own 24” or 30” monitors probably aren’t looking at sub-$120 video card to run them. Even with Crysis Warhead, where I thought the card could stumble and fall, as many higher priced cards did with the original Crysis, the 9800GT from MSI was able to play the game fairly smoothly at 1280x1024. ASUS P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 Motherboard @ tweaktown.com [Aug-18-08] (0 Comments) Intel has really pushed forward into the Express chipset lineup with the new 4 series being touted at what the 3 series should have been. It seems like the 3 series was just a stepping stone and the 5 series isn’t all that far away. But that’s for a totally different processor architecture. So far, we have already had the early P45-DQ6 and MSI P45 Platinum cross our paths. Today we are looking at another big wig P45 offering, namely ASUS’ P5Q Deluxe Motherboard. Featuring its EPU6 energy saver, DDR2 and a wide array of features including Express gate, ASUS hopes to topple the likes of GIGABYTE and MSI. Let’s see just how well it manages to perform. upgrading memory voids the warranty @ bit-tech.net [Jul-24-08] (0 Comments) For those who don't know, even though MSI has left a slot freeformemory upgrades, the problem MSI faces is that it doesn't include aspecific flap for the memory like every other laptop - you literallyhave to take the whole thing apart to get to the free memory slot (orhard drive if you want to do that too). The level of complexity ingetting it back together correctly is far beyond ASUS EN9600GT SILENT Graphics Card @ tweaktown.com [Jul-16-08] (0 Comments) You’d think we would have looked at all 9600GT cards on the market, but I can guarantee there are more out there. The particular one we’re looking at today comes from ASUS and carries with it a silent cooler. We’ve seen GIGABYTE offer the 9600GT in silent form, sporting both 512MB and 1GB of GDDR3. MSI also has a card where the fan only spins when the card needs it. During our testing, however, the fan never actually spun.Silent cards are becoming quite the rage and everyone wants good performance without any noise. In the past, the design used to be reserved for low-end cards, but these days we seem to be able to get a good performing card that outputs not a single dB. In the highly competitive market that is the 9600GT, we will today see if ASUS are able to do anything that helps them stand out from the pack and if it’s a card worth looking at. bit-tech :MSI Wind U100 @ bit-tech.net [Jul-05-08] (0 Comments) *The MSI Wind is a good sub-notebook– nay, a /great/ > subnotebook. MSI P45 Platinum Motherboard @ tweaktown.com [Jun-18-08] (0 Comments) Today we have an early market sample of MSI’s P45 Platinum which is their top of the range board, this designed to compete with both ASUS’ and GIGABYTE’s ultra high-end P45 offerings. While it doesn’t have the full retail packaging included, we’ve confirmed with MSI that it’s the final revision board in our labs. For our comparison today, we are pitting the MSI P45 Platinum against our oldest but most impressive P35 board we have, GIGABYTE’s P35 DQ6. Both are based on DDR2 memory which make these systems equally matched apart from the change in chipset. MSI N9600GT Hybrid Freezer Graphics Card @ tweaktown.com [Jun-06-08] (0 Comments) It’s always nice to see companies mix it up with new coolers, and the Hybrid Freezer seems to have some pretty cool technology behind it. It makes sense that they’re installing it on the popular 9600GT series of card, and in this case MSI has decided to install it on a card carrying with it 1GB of GDDR3 memory for added appeal. While we’ve looked at so many 9600GTs, you have to admit that we’ve seen such a huge variety of different models; some excellent clocks, some excellent connectivity and some pretty funky aftermarket coolers. First Look:MSI's Wind sub-notebook @ bit-tech.net [May-31-08] (0 Comments) We dropped into MSI’s headquarters in Taiwan this morning toget somehands on time with its new Wind PC. For those unaware of its importance,it’s not only MSI’s first netbook but also one of the first tocarry the Intel Atom processor.Having played with the Eee PC and quite frankly, finding it much toosmall to be comfortable, the 10-inch Wind was a real pleasure to usewithout crippling my hands into looking like a lobster claw (fingersall pinched together). The Wind will launch in plain white, but will also have the option ofthese cool tattoos. Now, not being one for art splashed over the coverof electronic gadgets I have to say (while reaffirming my masculinityhere) that it looks awesome.Another thing the Wind has over the Eee PC is the fact it feels like aquality product – with the Eee, you’re aware of the (inexpensive) priceyou pay in the feel of the plastic. I have to say that it’s even got aless cheap plastic feeling than MSI’s notebooks that are twice theprice. Nehalem and X58 show up in Taipei @ bit-tech.net [May-30-08] (0 Comments) First, the CPU and its new socket:while the roadmaps say thehigh-endNehalem to be launched in Q4 will have up to eight cores, the one MSIhad in its office was just a quad-core but with eight threads. The socket is still LGA, but instead of the 775 used on current boards, this one now features 1366 pins and is slightly rectangular – notPentium Pro rectangular, but simply a stretched out square. The back of the socket now has a metal backplate to brace itself andI’m afraid you’ll be buying a new heatsink too because the socketfittings have changed since LGA775. In fact, the whole area that needsto be exclusively for “Intel CPU use” is now apparently over twice thevolume of that compared to LGA775 giving motherboard manufacturers evenless space to shoehorn in additional components. It sp orts a 10=94 WSVGA LCD with a wide screen resolution of 1024 x 600 which MSI claims is going to be much better for web surfing compared to Eee. Gigabyte's GA-EP35-DS4 motherboard @ bit-tech.net [Feb-25-08] (0 Comments) All things considered, even though the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4performsvery well and fits well into a price niche we can't really recommend it¨C its only advantage over the significantly cheaper GA-EP35-DS3R isCrossFire, and it screws that up so much with its subpar layout that itbecomes a net feature loss, not a gain. If you really want CrossFire, get the MSI P35 Platinum because it not only keeps up with the DS4 inall areas, it has a better layout and costs around 25 percent less!TheMSI P35 Platinum shows that it can not only match the EP35 power savingefforts, without needing funky software, but it's also been doing sosince June last year. In addition, the Gigabyte solution doesn't adjustthe front side bus and auto-overclock under load, like the Asus EPU. Ithink it's a great effort from Gigabyte ¨C we're always massively infavour of energy efficiency, but the current system needs to be greatlyrefined.Unfortunately the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 doesn't do itfor us, but don't discount the whole EP35 range, because we'd certainlygive the GA-EP35-DS3R some serious attention instead. It's not dying off anytime soon thanks to the aggressive pricing that has been implemented recently. It did get us thinking though; with an MSI HD 3870 OC sitting around doin g nothing, it was time to see what would happen when we put overclocked p art up against overclocked part. It's really going to come down to how well the HD 3870 is able to make use of the increased clock speeds that M SI have offered. There'salso the fact that the AM2 CPU will drop into an AM2+ socket should youwant to get one of the newer IGP boards coming in the near future, asthese are all likely to feature full-HD video decode offloading.Everything you need is there and while it's not perfect, the videoquality on offer is acceptable. We're genuinely surprised at the outcome – we didn't ever expect theAMD 690G to last anywhere near this long as our preferred choice, however the MSI seems to have got it right with its K9AGM3-FIH as itremains the best solution for the time being. First look at the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) @ bit-tech.net [Jan-22-08] (0 Comments) Even though wehave seen an MSI motherboard being used with an AMI EFIBIOS last year, we have only now have been informed that MSI has beguntrialling more motherboards kitted out with EFI BIOSs.Richard Stewart, UK Marketing Manager at MSI told us that “MSIwill start to phase EFI into its next generation motherboard platform, and will allow much easier accessibility of motherboard BIOS systems. The ability to use a GUI and mouse can only encourage users to attemptto unlock the full potential of today’s modern motherboards. Even atthis early beta stage we have seen excellent OC potential using currentgeneration of MSI motherboards.”From the looks of things, everything should become far more intuitive –pictures can finally accompany text for example, which will help togive users a more fundamental understanding of what doors each of theuser’s required options are hidden behind.Given the necessary LAN and Internet connection, in addition to theusual Core Centre hardware tweaking, MSI is planning to enable manymore features in its EFI BIOSs, including a live update option, alongwith instant messaging and streaming audio/video capabilities. MSI X48 Platinum Motherboard @ tweaktown.com [Jan-22-08] (0 Comments) We have already tested the X48 chipset in its DDR2 variant (that' s right, because it's a direct descendant of the X38 it keeps the dual mode memory controller); the DDR2 version has already managed to produce some better scores than the X38 DDR2 thanks to its increased FSB support. Today we are moving onto X48 in DDR3 form.MSI has graciously provided us with their new X48 Platinum motherboard wh ich is designed to be an ultra overclockable and feature-rich model. How it stacks up is the subject of today's review. MSI 8800GT 512MB - XSs @ xsreviews.co.uk [Jan-18-08] (0 Comments) The8 series of nVIDIA cards have been around for over a year and havealmost completely dominated the market in terms of high end support. Now with the 9 series just around the corner, partners are finishing upwith their last set of performance cards before focusing on the nextgeneration. One of these last cards is the 8800GT; near performance ofa GTX with a sub GTS price tag. MSI might be a bit late in the game to release an 8800GT model, butthey've done it none the less and it's here with me today. Let's see ifit lives up to the 8800GT's sterling reputation. MSI K9A2 CF motherboard @ bit-tech.net [Dec-21-07] (0 Comments) The MSI K9A2 CF provides excellent value as the cheapestmulti-GPU, PCI-Express2.0 board you'll find on the market today. The fact it’s not based onthe premium chipset in its range means it isn't faster than a 790FXmotherboard, but it still keeps up with the crowd and overclocks like amonster if you have the CPU to match. For £60, it's an exceptionally capable and very stablemotherboard that also has a solid BIOS at this early stage in the790X’s life. Considering the fact that Phenoms are dropping in pricehand over fist and the Radeon HD 3850s and Radeon HD 3870s are goodbuys already, this board is a perfect addition to an inexpensiveupgrade to quad-core and DirectX 10. Palit GeForce 8800GT Sonic Graphics Card @ tweaktown.com [Dec-14-07] (0 Comments) Palit do a good job of impressing us here; they seem to be consis tently one of the cheapest partners on the market but it doesn't seem t o come at the cost of specs or build quality. Going into the arena with our Palit 8800GT Sonic is a stock clocked 8800G T from ASUS and the older HD 2900 XT from MSI which is also stock clocked . bit-tech :Cooler Master CM 690 chassis @ bit-tech.net [Nov-29-07] (0 Comments) The Cooler Master CM 690 is a nice looking case, there’s nodoubt in mymind about that, and the fact that its available for around fifty quidin the UK only sweetens the deal. On top of that, the coolingperformance is pretty admirable.Does the case have problems? Sure it does, but nothing is perfect. Theplentiful ventilation grilles mean that the case can get pretty noisy, especially if you have it on your desk right next to you monitor. That’s only going to get worse the more fans you put in the case too, though it can also be solved pretty easily by putting the case in adesk alcove. The main problem with the case though is the apparent flimsiness of thematerial and the fact that the build quality is occasionally a littlesuspect. The front of the case doesn’t meet the side panels or the topof the case all that well, even on the side that I didn’t damage. Regardless, the Cooler Master CM 690 is still a very worthy addition tothe catalogue and the cheap price means that pretty much anyone canjustify the expense. It may not be the most flash case we’ve ever seen, but it does what it says on the tin and it does it well at that. There’s not much more you can reasonably ask for. Mod of the Month - November 2007 @ bit-tech.net [Nov-28-07] (0 Comments) Here we are at the end of November, and what a month it's been. It'salmost hard to believe that anybody has had any time to do moddingprojects as of late, being as the pile of great games just keepsgetting higher and higher. On top of that, those of us who areStateside have had the Thanksgiving holiday to contend with - and thoseTryptophan-laden turkeys don't just eat themselves!Despite all of that, it seems that you talented modding types havemanaged to find time for the art. Maybe it's the chill, dreary weather, maybe it's the impending holiday season - but whatever the reason, itseems you guys have been modding like fiends. Which is great, becausegood mods never take a holiday. This month, one of you will be walking away with another prize packfrom the folks over at AC Ryan, as well as a bit of love frommotherboard manufacturer MSI. MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E OC @ nvnews.net [Nov-08-07] (0 Comments) Even at the resolution of 1920x1200, the MSI NX8800GT is such a strong competitor to the GeForce 8800 GTX, that the same AA settings that were reported at the resolution of 1680x1050 are also reported here. Once again, the NX8800GT is outperforming the GeForce 8800 GTX in Dark Messiah and in two of the three settings in Oblivion. MSI P6N Diamond Motherboard @ nvnews.net [Nov-05-07] (0 Comments) All in all, the MSI P6N Motherboard performs like a pro and earns the label of an enthusiast motherboard with features such as the 680i SLI chipset, SLI, Dual Core Cell capacitors and on-board X-Fi technology. MSI GeForce NX8800GT 512MB Graphics Card @ tweaktown.com [Oct-27-07] (0 Comments) We had no doubt that NVIDIA was going to bring something to the p arty to battle the HD 2900 PRO but we didn't think it was going to be a new card. We thought maybe a few tweaks here and there in the drivers wo uld be done but instead they decide to drop the bombshell that is the 880 0GT. The 8800GT is here and we're going to see stock at the beginning of nex t week all around the world, which is more than we can say for the HD 290 0 PRO which impressed us a great deal. AMD DTX Specification System P @ legitreviews.com [Oct-24-07] (0 Comments) Over the past ten months AMD has brought the DTX specification from a de sign on paper to an actual product that works. It is obvious that AMD is listening to market demands, as just this year alone they have announced low-wattage 45W desktop processor offerings and the DTX specification tha t will help make HTPC's smaller, cooler and quieter. Now that AMD has got ten the ball rolling industry partners such as Albatron, Asus, Cooler Mas ter, ECS, Gigabyte, MSI, Silverstone, and Thermaltake need to pick up the DTX form factor and run with it. MSI HomePlug kit - Network & power sockets @ xtremecomputing.co.uk [Oct-19-07] (0 Comments) I can remember when I first heard about the homeplug idea of using existing power lines in your house to create a network. This was a very exciting idea for me, but unfortunately the first generation of these products didn’t live up to the hype, as they were only able to connect at a maximum of 14Mbit, not very fast at all. Now we have the next generation of these products and this time round they actually deliver. ASUS Blitz Formula P35 Motherboard @ tweaktown.com [Oct-17-07] (0 Comments) So far we have seen a lot of P35 boards come out, some good, some bad and some that fit the extreme users bill. ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI and AB IT have been the biggest players so far, but none have done what ASUS has managed to do here. Today we are reviewing the ASUS Blitz Formula P35 motherboard which gives a whole new setup for Crossfire users. How does it fair compared to our GIGABYTE P35-DQ6? Let's have a look. ASUS P5K Motherboard - P35 on a Budget @ tweaktown.com [Oct-11-07] (0 Comments) So far we have looked at a few P35 boards both based on DDR2 and DDR3 memory technologies from the major players like GIGABYTE, ASUS, MSI, Universal abit and even from the more unfamiliar companies like Foxconn and ECS. All of these offer a pretty good design and feature set dependin g on what your intent is. Today we are looking at another ASUS P35 board for the more mainstream/bu dget sector. We looked at the P5K-E Deluxe board which had everything you 're going to want built onto the board including Wireless USB Ethernet. MSI NX8600GT Twin Turbo @ nvnews.net [Oct-10-07] (0 Comments) Overall, the NX8600GT Twin Turbo is an excellent GeForce 8 Series solution for those on a budget. It's a nice step up from a GeForce 7600 GT and will cost around $120-$150 retail, although no official retail price has been set at this time. It is a dual-slot design with a nice cooling solution and a very unique bit-tech :MSI's P35 Diamond motherboard @ bit-tech.net [Sep-24-07] (0 Comments) The MSI P35 Diamond performs well but isn't exceptional and theadditional extras are a welcome effort but might not appeal toeveryone. I constantly found myself writing MSI Digi Vox mini II v3.0 - XSs @ xsreviews.co.uk [Sep-18-07] (0 Comments) Withthe inclusion of all kinds of media extras on motherboards and graphicscards (high quality audio and HDMI output), it seems only natural foryour computer to become a place for TV signals to be shown. Most of thetime you’ll have to use a PCI add-in card to get your favouriteepisodes on your screen, but today I have MSI’s Digivox mini II whichenables USB 2.0 usage. bit-tech Feature:MSI KunShan Factory Tour 2007 @ bit-tech.net [Sep-16-07] (0 Comments) Bit-tech took a trip to ShangHai and KunShan in China to see MSI's manufacturing facilities, and learn a bit more about the company and its philosophy. MSI X38 Diamond p @ bit-tech.net [Sep-14-07] (0 Comments) Overall, the board has better features than usualwhich is always good, however it just feels a touch sporadic and thereisn't that elegance in the design. I know, if it works then what thehell, right? But for example, dedicating a whole PCI-Express x1 lanefor just one IDE port feels... wrong. MSI is limited by the options ofchipsets available, true, but it seems like there's just been a checklist and stuff has been progressively thrown on then the dots have beenjoined. On a slightly different note, we did ask about MSI's RD790 motherboard, but there's currently no word on it just yet. This is both surprisingand slightly worrying - we can only assume that it's because Phenomparts are still a little way away, and so we'll know more when you canbuy the CPUs for it. MSI K9N4 SLI Motherboard @ rbmods.com [Aug-20-07] (0 Comments) New sockets and processors are slowly arriving to the motherboardmarket but the Am2 socket is still the most popular one. Today we arelooking at an sample from MSI as they sent us their K9N4 SLI motherboardthat seems to have most of the neat new features that are needed. We aregoing to compare vs an older MSI board to see what upgrades have been done. Biostar TF7050-M2 - Nvidia's GeForce 7050PV chipset @ bit-tech.net [Aug-08-07] (0 Comments) At the end of the day, for £45 this board is inexpensive asopposed tocheap. It's a quality product with a lot going for it, even though itdoesn't have the full package and some socket placements are a bitiffy. If you can live with just 720p or 1080i (providing you aren'tusing an LCD HDTV with the latter) then it can play back both HD DVDand Blu-ray discs as long as you're willing to shell out for theexpensive player on top. The MSI K9AGM2 is more stable and does the fundamental job just aswell, but the Biostar TF7050-M2 has a few more features here and therebut only lasted the eight hours under serious load. The real kicker isNvidia's driver limitation on 1080p support, regardless ofattempted playback or even overclocking the IGP. MSI P6N-Diamond - XSs @ Jon \ [Aug-03-07] (0 Comments) Inthe past Nvidia have produced some of the best enthusiast chipsetsaround, most notably perhaps their nForce 4 for the old AMD 939systems. Still, times have changed now and for quite a while Intel's965P and 975P based motherboards was the way to go with LGA 775systems. However, in recent times Nvidia have clawed their way back inwith their feature packed 680i boards and we have finally got our handson one. The MSI P6N-Diamond which priomises great overclocking, a chockload of features and excellent cooling to boot, let's see if this allrings true. SilverStone SG03 Aluminum Micro ATX Case @ pro-clockers.com [Jul-31-07] (0 Comments) Finding the right case to transport to a LAN party or fit on a deskwith minimal real estate can sometimes be a daunting task. The dimensionsbetween typical ATX cases and micro ATX cases are sometimes verysignificant, and when space it at a premium, users need to find somethingthat will fit their needs just right. SilverStone has been creating SFFcases for several years now, and the SG03 is their latest version of theSUGO line of cases. This case really goes down a different path fromSilverStone's other previous SFF cases, and really tries to blend thebenefits of a typical ATX case with the compactness of a micro ATX case. MSI 8600GTS Diamond Plus with HDMI @ tweaktown.com [Jul-29-07] (0 Comments) Digital TV users might currently find themselves with a Home T heater PC which utilizes a standard VGA cable, the other popular choice i s a DVI-to-HDMI cable. The good news is that if you're using the former but think it's time to go digital connectivity between your HTPC and TV, we might have just t he card for you. MSI GeForce 8500 GT and 8600 GT Comparison @ nvnews.net [Jul-13-07] (0 Comments) While MSI's GeForce 8500 GT (NX8500GT-TD256E) is capable of handling the workload of the typical user and the odd game, the more powerful MSI GeForce 8600 GT OC provides twice the gaming performance in almost every gaming scenario tested. The box could offer a few more extraslike additional USB ports and the board's eSATA solution is inferior toGigabyte's optional bracket. However, if you're a fan of quietcomputing and want something rock solid stable with an enthusiastfriendly BIOS, superb overclocking and a not too stressing price, thenthe MSI P35 Platinum should definitely be one to consider. MSI Radeon HD 2900 XT 512MB Graphics Card @ tweaktown.com [Jun-12-07] (0 Comments) The initial drivers were nothing to get excited about and made the performance overall look pretty ordinary. The biggest problem though is that it seems most people have already made up their minds - I will not lie to you, I had. I honestly saw the initial test results and thought the card was a joke considering how long we had been waiting for it.The good news is that ATI are really on the ball when it comes to drivers. It has been like this for a few years now and it only took a new set of drivers to really make the HD 2900 XT something worth having as far as we are concerned. GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM-S2H Motherboard @ tweaktown.com [Jun-11-07] (0 Comments) Compared to that of the GeForce 6150 chipset, AMD has really got a winner - its ability to run HDMI as well as superior graphics core makes it a more ideal chipset for the K8, giving you a full AMD system with AMD CPU and AMD chipset.Today we are looking at the GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM motherboard designed with the AMD 690G chipset. MSI PC2008 in Taipei Event – Exclusive (Part 2:Upcoming Santa Rosa NB) @ tweaktown.com [May-16-07] (0 Comments) Robson technology or Turbo Memory is also part of the new Centrino Duo platform, although as this is still rather expensive, it is unlikely that most notebooks will ship with a Turbo Memory module fitted. It will also be interesting to see what impact Turbo Memory has on overall system performance, as ReadyBoost did not prove to be a huge hit. Other news includes support for draft 802.11n wireless networking, again something that only higher-end models are likely to ship with. SATA 3Gb/s is part of the new ICH and this should allow for somewhat improved performance. Intel has also added support for Intel Matrix RAID, which is interesting, so we might see a lot more notebooks with twin hard drives in the near future. On the integrated graphics side of things, a new GMA has been developed, the X3100, which according to Intel offers twice the performance in 3DMark06. It also adds Vista Premium certification, HDMI support and better video playback performance for high-definition content. At the same time as Intel launched the new Centrino platform, Nvidia also announced its GeForce 8M series of graphics cards, which are mobile versions of the 8400 and 8600 series. These are already available in several Centrino Duo models from MSI as well as other manufacturers and this is the route to go down it you really intend to play games on your notebook. So let us take a look at what was on at the show. MSI GeForce NX8800GTX OC Liquid – Water cooling vs. the 8800 Ultra @ tweaktown.com [May-15-07] (0 Comments) We have not seen MSI venture to water cooled cards before and the 8800 GTX is still of a bit of an untapped market for this. Asus has an Aqua model which uses the aging Tide Water system from Thermaltake. This particular system is not too quiet, takes up a load of room, and is generally pretty inefficient. The only other company to have a water cooled card is BFG Tech but its version is a bit more hardcore, it is only for people who already have a water cooled system in their case.MSI on the other hand seems to use its own design which unlike the Tide Water looks to cool everything from the GPU to the memory and unlike the BFG Tech is an all in one system making it a good option for people who do not really know what they are doing. MSI NX8800GTS-T2D320E-HD OC @ nvnews.net [May-08-07] (0 Comments) With prices below $300, the power of the best NVIDIA has to offer is now available for everyone. With the only difference between the two GTS models being the amount of GDDR3 RAM (640MB vs. 320MB) the sub-$300 price is attractive and reasonable. MSI took the reference design and upped the ante by increasing the core and memory clock speeds in their NX8800GTS-T2D320E-HD OC offering. The increase in raw speed on the card served as a good reminder that the marketing hype of MSI P6N SLI Platinum Motherboard – Nvidia nForce 650i SLI returns @ tweaktown.com [May-07-07] (0 Comments) Nvidia has listened, traditionally there are only one or two chipsets for each platform from Nvidia, but currently the company has four for the Core 2 platform, five if you want to count the old 590 Intel Edition. Within the 600-series there are now a total of four options; 680i SLI for the enthusiast, 680i LT for the high-end, 650i SLI for the mid-range and the 650i ultra for the vale end of the market. We have tested a motherboard from ECS, our first 650i SLI chipset, which we found to be a very good contender. Its performance was on the money, in fact it was not that far behind the 680i-series, only the SLI implementation and a few additional features are where the chipset really differs. 650i falls back on the old twin PCI Express x8 slots for its SLI setup. If you want to use SLI, your graphics cards only run at x8 speeds, this eliminates the ability to run quad-SLI. MSI P6N SLI Platinum Motherboard @ viperlair.com [May-04-07] (0 Comments) From a performance, stability and overclocking stand point, some of it depends on the BIOS you use. At time of writing, the latest 1.22 BIOS is still beta, but if you want the most from the board, this is the BIOS revision to use if you are overclocking. Standard performance with the original BIOS is quite good, especially in the memory department. CPU performance does fall slightly behind the likes of the 975x chipset in synthetic tests, but most multimedia applications don't suffer noticeably as a consequence. Gaming performance is excellent. MSI 8600 GT OC Edition @ pureoverclock.com [Apr-25-07] (0 Comments) Its main problem (and that goes for all 8600 GT and GTS cards) isthe X1950 Pro, which offers a very similar package bar DX10 support. Of course, the 1333MHz FSB, 3.0GHz, settings that I initially found to be stable is a good cushion to fall back on. EVGA and MSI GeForce 8600 GTS P @ nvnews.net [Apr-17-07] (0 Comments) Today NVIDIA unleashes its mainstream Graphics Processing Units (GPU) based on the GeForce 8 architecture by announcing the GeForce 8600 GTS, GeForce 8600 GT and GeForce 8500 GT. The GPUs are Windows Vista and DirectX 10-ready and will be featured on graphics cards at price points ranging from $89-$229. MSI P6N SLI Platinum @ bit-tech.net [Mar-28-07] (0 Comments) Depending where you apply value depends on whether this motherboardisright for you to start with. It's certainly not an all rounder. If youjust want great stock performance from a good looking, stable-as-a-rockmotherboard then this should certainly be in the mix to buy. However,if you're looking for a cheap, overclocking fiend, you'll need to checkelsewhere. MSI just didn't display that to us here. XFX GeForce 8800GTS 320MB XXX (Factory Overclocked) @ tweaktown.com [Mar-19-07] (0 Comments) The particular variant we are looking at is the XXX edition which has the highest core and memory speed - the other OC version from XFX is the Extreme edition which has slightly higher clock speeds than the base model but lower than XXX edition. There is also of course a default (base) model although we have seen the performance of that from the MSI GTS 320MB product offering already.Let’s continue on and see what XFX have for us package wise before we check out the card and then later its performance. It is actually worth spending more on the factory overclocked edition or is it a waste of money? Foxconn N68S7AA-8EKRS2H nForce 680i Motherboard @ tweaktown.com [Mar-09-07] (0 Comments) Intel has its own very solid P965 and 975X chipsets along with its upcoming Bearlake P35 and X38 series chipsets with DDR-3 memory support among other things and should show up in the May and June time frame. SiS has new ones coming out, VIA even has started to look into Core 2 and even AMD/ATI has chipsets currently on the market and even working on new ones for their competitors processor platform. nVidia though at this time is the biggest player for Core 2, especially for Dual Graphics SLI.Today we are looking at another contender for the Core 2 market using the nVidia nForce 680i chipset being Foxconn with their obscurely named N68S7AA-8EKRS2H motherboard. Foxconn has been known in the past for the more budget conscious boards, not wanting to take on the big boys like MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte and the likes who really push overclocking to its limits but it seems like they mean business now and are ready for the challenge. Investigating GeForce 8800GTS 320MB SLI Performance @ tweaktown.com [Mar-08-07] (0 Comments) What do we have today? We have a pair of GeForce 8800GTS 320MB GTS graphics cards from MSI. With the 640MB version already being discontinued, these cheaper edition cards are popping up all over the place and it was great to have a pair together in the labs. It’s not a cheap upgrade at around $900 AUD (about $680 USD) for the pair of them but if you’re looking for some serious 3D gaming performance, it could well do the trick. We clearly felt that if we were going to test SLI 8800’s, it had to be done properly - the Dell 30” LCD with its lovely 2560 x 1600 resolution was pulled out and SLI was tested in style. Let’s not ramble on anymore and see exactly what we have here and if a pair of 8800GTS 320MB cards in SLI can do it for us. MSI RX1950XT-VT2D256E-HD Videocard @ rbmods.com [Feb-28-07] (0 Comments) Not everyone has 500$ to put on a videocard, but don't worry there'smany good quality alternatives for them. The videocard manufacturers provideseveral different cards in various price classes. Tonight we will look at acard in the middle segment, which sells for around 300$ which is a moreafordable price to some people. But how do they perform though? This makes this ideal for those who want to mod, or just forthose seeking extra HDD space in larger cases MSI P965 Neo S775 Motherboard @ rbmods.com [Feb-07-07] (0 Comments) I got myself an Intel Extreme X6800 processor a month ago and I needed a motherboard that was able to support it also. There were several chipsets to choose from, price and performance are of course the main things I look at, and my choice fell on a Msi P965 Neo motherboard. The 965 chipset is not the fastest but still puts up a good fight vs 975 chipsets on the market. The main thing with this board is that you can get it for under 100$ which is a bargain compared to even older 945 chipset boards. So it's time to test this one out and see what it can do vs a AMD motherboard with a overclocked 4800+ AM2 under the hood. Akust Ramsink VI BGA copper ram sink @ aoaforums.com [Jan-27-07] (0 Comments) As with any computer enthusiast, I like to push my hardware to its limits. Over clocking allows me to get the most from my hardware. As you know in order to achieve the best over clock possible, it is often necessary to increase the voltage. Unfortunately, the byproduct of this added voltage is excess heat. So I picked up a new water block to take over where the stock cooler was falling short. This cooled the GPU but did nothing for the video ram. So now I was looking for a solution to this new problem. This is why I bought the Akust Ramsink VI BGA ram sinks. CES 2007 Wrap Up- OCZ, MSI, Fujitsu, and More @ xyzcomputing.com [Jan-27-07] (0 Comments) This last article is going to be a quick wrap up of some of the things that were not covered previously. Most of them are things we would have liked to cover in a full article, but time constraints make that impossible. After all, no one wants to be reading about CES in the February. The highlights of what is covered in this article include OCZ's 2000W external power supply unit and laser gaming mice, as well as SuperTalent's 4GB DDR2 registered memory DIMM, and some very shiny gear at MSI and Transcend. MSI P965 Platinum Motherboard – Great OC without huge price @ tweaktown.com [Jan-25-07] (0 Comments) Intel’s P965 chipset has really shown us lately there is really no great point in getting a more expensive 975X chipset based motherboard but why? P965 has native DDR-2 800 memory support, its FSB overclocking potential is usually higher and it supports more peripherals on the ICH8 Southbridge. With Crossfire reorganisation from ATI, it has all the features of the 975X and more.MSI’s second P965 motherboard they have sent us left a much sweeter taste in our mouths. The cheaper P965 Neo that was originally sent to us really should not have been considered, however, we can say that the P965 Platinum has some major pull here and it’s quite a capable product. And it’s really not that much more expensive than the Neo version. This is because AV equipment makes automatic allowances for overscan whereas graphics cards don’t. To fix this, there’s a certain amount of manual tweaking required in the driver.I wanted to compare AMD and nVidia’s driver capabilities to get your system up and connected properly to an HDTV. The two cards used were an MSI NX7600GT Diamond Plus and Sapphire X1600 Pro HDMI. Both cards have native support for HDMI. MSI MEGA PLAYER P640 MP3 player - better than Nano? @ xtremecomputing.co.uk [Dec-22-06] (0 Comments) Is it an IPOD nano killer. well I could not spot any difference inthe sound quality over the Nano we have here and that was quite surprisingand yes to be quite frank it is, the 4 gig Ipod nano is slightly moreexpensive than this in both the UK and the USA. MSI K9N Neo-F Socket AM2 motherboard @ rbmods.com [Nov-29-06] (0 Comments) Today it's time to take a look at a motherboard. Msi has sent us a sample of their K9N Neo-F motherboard for socket AM2 and we are going to test it with our brand new 4800+ X2 processor to see what type of speeds we can get out of it. The market is getting full with different sockets these days and it can be hard for consumers to know which one to get and hopefully this review will help you with that issue since we will compare it to a S775 board to see the actual speed difference. MSI mPC 51PV SFF System @ MSI comes to mind as a company that initially approached the SFF [Nov-15-06] (0 Comments) MSI comes to mind as a company that initially approached the SFFmarket with some trepidation, but has since found their stride, so to speak.MSI now has three different series of slim and small form factor PCs (Hetis,mPC, and Crystal), each with distinctly different feature sets and targetaudiences. MSI K9N Diamond Motherboard @ hardwaresecrets.com [Nov-14-06] (0 Comments) Our review of MSI K9N Diamond, the most high-end socket AM2 motherboard from MSI, based on nForce 590 SLI featuring an on-board Sound Blaster Audigy SE sound card. Check it out! MSI GeForce 8800GTS is here - Hello DX10 @ tweaktown.com [Nov-08-06] (0 Comments) G80 is clearly the most anticipated GPU update for nVidia for quite some time now and unless you have been living under a rock, you would know why. Previous generation cards like the GeForce 7800 and 7900 series have been more of a speed increase then anything else. While we have seen implementation of new graphics technology built into them they are nothing near as major as what the new GeForce 8800 series brings with it today. DirectX 10 is going to be the platform for gaming over the next few years. There are two sides of arguments to the 8800 series - both of which make a very good point. Those who felt that buying the previous generation top cards wasn’t a waste of money, because while the 8800 line up was coming out with DX10 support (which of course is such a major leap), how long was it going to be until we actually see DX10 technology implemented into games? While the other side felt that the 8800 was not only going to bring increased DX9 performance but also support for DX10. MSI K9N SLI Platinum & Foxconn C51XEM2AA @ pureoverclock.com [Oct-14-06] (0 Comments) Not so long ago Nvidia launched the nForce 500 chipset's for AMD'snew DDR2 capable socket AM2. By now you should all be aware of the minimalperformance increases DDR2 has brought to the A64 architecture and it's lowlatency on-die memory controller, but from my perspective the most difficultaspect of the AM2 and nForce 500 launch is leaving behind the oh-so maturemotherboard choices available for s939 in place of brand new 'unproven'boards, so to speak. With that point made, anyone who's eying up AMD'srecent and significant price drops across the board will be asking onequestion - which AM2 board will rock my world? Intel P965 Shootout Part 1 - ASUS, MSI and Foxconn @ tweaktown.com [Oct-10-06] (0 Comments) Now that Core 2 has established itself as the dominant architecture for now, motherboard manufacturers are scrambling to get boards out that will support Intel’s Core 2 processors, especially ones based on the new mainstream chipset, the Intel P965 Express chipset. HIS X1650Pro IceQ Turbo Video Card @ viperlair.com [Sep-27-06] (0 Comments) The video card itself is dominated by the IceQ cooler, which although big isn't at all heavy in comparison to some other video cards. Cooling was well taken care of with that cooler as well as the ramsinks. This allowed the card to keep cooler than many other cards I've looked at, while still keeping very quiet in overclocked operation. Overclocking wasn't anything to write home about but there was a increase that we were able to find out of this card. 2D quality is something that ATi and its partners can be very proud of, as it is among the best I've ever seen. MSI NX7950GX2-T2D1GE @ hothardware.com [Sep-22-06] (0 Comments) Usually, good price / performance ratios are reserved for moreaffordable mid-range cards. Flagship cards rarely offer a lot of value, however. That's just not the case with the 7950 GX2, though. It offersperformance that somewhat justifies its $550+ price tag. The GX2 performsroughly on par with a pair of GeForce 7900 GT cards, and its price isin-line with the cost of two GTs. And MSI's version of this card proved tobe an excellent representative of NVIDIA's flagship. DFI vs. MSI – Conroe 975X Motherboards Tested @ tweaktown.com [Sep-20-06] (0 Comments) Since Intel aren’t intending on releasing a new enthusiast level chipset for their processors for sometime, we are starting to see new revisions of older motherboards released like the ASUS P5W-DH - which is simply a P5WD2-E Premium with Core 2 support. MSI K9N nForce 570 SLI Platinum @ nvnews.net [Sep-11-06] (0 Comments) On the whole, I am very pleased with the MSI K9N SLI Platinum nForce 570. The board has a plethora of features, and considering that it can be found for less than $130, the deal is quite awesome; it brings nForce 5, socket AM2, DDR2 memory and SLI to the masses for a very affordable price. MSI K9N SLI Platinum Motherboard @ viperlair.com [Sep-09-06] (0 Comments) Despite not being based on NVIDIA's flagship chipset, the MSI K9N SLI Platinum has shown to be a very impressive board. The build quality and design is very good. Minor items, such as SATA connection placement, was well thought out by MSI. We liked the CMOS reset button, as it makes recovering from unbootable system changes very easy. The heatsinks scattered about do help in controlling the heat, though some active cooling is recommended if you're using a water cooler. The flat chipset cooler as well as the wide space between PEG slots leave more options for the user as well. ECS KA3 MVP and MSI K9A Platinum XPress 3200 @ pcper.com [Sep-01-06] (0 Comments) Both have their strengths, but the MSI K9A Platinum is a slightlybetter choice in our opinion due to the minor BIOS and layout quirks that wedidn't like on the ECS KA3 MVP. Both boards are a slight let down after thestrength of the ATI reference board and the first Socket 939 motherboardsbased on the XPress 3200 chipsets. Both might gain a lot of ground withsteady BIOS updates, but neither manufacturer has shown signs of taking thisroute either. MSI NX7950GX2 @ nvnews.net [Aug-31-06] (0 Comments) You begin to appreciate the sheer power of the NX7950GX2 as doubling the resolution from 1024x768 to 2048x1536, with 4X antialiasing, only resulted in a 34.5% decrease in the overall 3DMark05 score. MSI 945GT Speedster-A4R supporting Core Duo Mobile @ tweaktown.com [Aug-02-06] (0 Comments) Core Duo is designed for the power conscious market, such as portable market, but it also has been given a place in Intel’s vision of the Digital Home. Core Duo and Core Solo are both part of the VIIV platform that Intel has put forward for the Digital Home platform. Core Duo and Core Solo are still the most energy efficient of the Intel processors on the market - even beating out the Core 2 series. After all, they are designed to fill a performance niche and not a power saving market. MSI NX7600GT VT2D256E @ hothardware.com [Jun-21-06] (0 Comments) Every once in a while a product is released that challenges all others inits class, setting itself apart from the pack. One such product is NVIDIA'sGeForce 7600GT line, which brings major competition to ATI's closestalternative, the Radeon X1600XT. On paper, the two products are very closebut MSI takes NVIDIA's reference GeForce 7600GT and adds a little flair andpanache to its NX7600GT-VT2D256E. With an oversized, premium cooler that isboth cool and quiet, as well as Memory and GPU speeds clocked higher thanreference specification, the NX7600GT-VT2D256E is ready for leading-edgegaming and overclocking. Sapphire X1600 v MSI 7600 @ bit-tech.net [Jun-12-06] (0 Comments) Both these cards represent very good value for the price. Gaming performance is admirable, video decoding is excellent. The Sapphire has good performance in FEAR, as well as the better of the two heatsinks and more tweaks in Avivo. However, the MSI has a clear edge in price which is hard to ignore, as well as faster performance in Lost Coast and 1080p decoding. Mobile on Desktop MSI style - 915GM Speedster-FA4 @ tweaktown.com [May-30-06] (0 Comments) Intel’s new Core Duo mobile processors are the hottest thing currently in mobile computing since the introduction of the Pentium-M processor. With its ability to run two separate cores on a 667MHz FSB with all the latest enhancements in core size reductions, better thermal management and a far better FPU we wonder what is going to happen to Pentium-M? Well for one thing, it’s going to get cheaper and that can only benefit HTPC users who are looking for a better deal. MSI K8N Diamond Plus nForce 4 SLI x16 @ viperlair.com [May-19-06] (0 Comments) MSI have a great board on their hands with the K8N Diamond Plus. There is a plethora of features and peripherals included onboard, and coupled with the extensive extras included, you should be very happy with the package overall. This of course comes hand in hand with a high price, but our thoughts are that is is a fair one. MSI K8N Diamond Plus Motherboard @ tweaktown.com [May-02-06] (0 Comments) The K8N Diamond Plus motherboard uses the nForce 4 SLI x16 chipset, the newest beast from nVidia. This chipset gives you a total of 32 PCI Express lanes for graphics cards alone; this means you get full speed PCI Express x16 slots. MSI uses a small interconnected heatpipe and fan design to keep the two chipsets as cool as possible - and this is especially great news for end-users who like to build quiet computers. That’s right - nForce 4 SLI x16 is a two chip solutions. nVidia worked this by placing the extra 16 lanes on the Southbridge chipset and uses a 1600Mhz Hyper Transport link to connect the Northbridge to the Southbridge. MSI GeForce NX7300GS-TD256E PCIE Video Card @ viperlair.com [Apr-14-06] (0 Comments) As for the speed, you will obviously not be able to play the latest games at high resolution. 1280x1024 is my personal minimum, and the NX7300 GS struggled for the most part. Unless you're playing an old title such as Quake 3, you'll be limited to 1024x768 and lower for an enjoyable game experience. Titles still look decent at 1024 and 800x600, but if you're a serious gamer where IQ and all the graphical doodads are important, you'll be better served spending a few hundred bucks more. MSI's RD480 motherboard ed @ bit-tech.net [Jan-06-06] (0 Comments) The board's layout is well thought-out with very little to worry about around the CPU socket. We would like to see the same space around the second video card slot too, but that's a minor quibble that's not likely to be fixed on any motherboard. If you're looking to run SLI or CrossFire, you have to accept that your video subsystem is going to take up a considerable amount of space. EPoX EP-5LDA+ GLi @ overclockersonline.com [Dec-21-05] (0 Comments) I have to say that this outing with EPoX was nice. The boardreally sets itself apart from EPoX's typical green PCB styling andoffers those concerned with aesthetics an attractive product. Theperformance is all EPoX though, and their reputation for greatreputation hasn't failed them in this product. While we weren't ableto push the chipset (it officially supports a 1066 FSB), the stabilitythis board was able to offer over previous boards I've used from MSIand Albatron using the same processor was excellent and allowed a muchhigher CPU frequency to be achieved. Mid-range money - 6600 DDR2 v X1300 @ bit-tech.net [Dec-07-05] (0 Comments) MSI's Radeon X1300 Pro is not a bad video card by any stretch of the imagination, which is great for the consumer - competition drives prices down. It's amazing to think that you can pick up something that performs as well as a Radeon 9700 for less than £80 these days. MSI P4N Diamond @ viperlair.com [Nov-04-05] (0 Comments) While the board did not sit on top of every benchmark, it has the potential to be one of the fastest gaming platforms for Intel. Benchmarks don't tell the whole story though, as the P4N Diamond proved to be a reliable board throughout testing and is stacked with enough features that it should be able to survive in most people's PC for a long while. Modding, Where to next? What happened to it? What is it really? @ thinkcomputers.org [Oct-24-05] (0 Comments) This isn't really an article, more of something to think about. Things that I observe, questions that I would like answered.Taking a look around the modding community you can see lots of things, the major thing you can see is that modding is becoming moreand more mainstream. Is this a good thing? There are 2 TV shows that I know of that are dedicated to modding, but it still is notfully mainstream yet. Some consider it an art form, some consider it a hobby and some say 'What's modding?' Browsing all the forumsI see lots and lots of mods, some are great and some are not so great. I see many people modding their computers with some theme inmind, some pull it off well and others do not. Danger Den Acetal Maze4 GPU Block @ techniz.co.uk [Oct-19-05] (0 Comments) Overall, the Danger Den Acetal Maze4 GPU water block is performing verywell during in the testing section. The package includes all the necessar ycomponents for proper assembly. Furthermore, it was totally silent duringthe operation. The installation was very simple, just took about fewminutes is able to install the Maze4 GPU water block on to the VGA card. But, it does not bundle with any RAM sink for the VGA RAM. So, therecommended Ramsinks to purchase is the OCZ Copper BGA Ramsinks. Anyway, the retail price for the Acetal Maze4 GPU block is at US $44.95 which is avery affordable price and the 8 pieces of OCZ Copper BGA Ramsink is at US$18.99. MSI Theater 550PRO @ viperlair.com [Oct-18-05] (0 Comments) For the cool price of $74 USD, the MSI Theater 550PRO is a pretty good value when compared to many other TV Tuners, including ATI's own TV Wonder Elite which goes for almost double the price. Considering there isn't much difference between the two in terms of software bundles and hardware, we'd lean towards MSI's version of the card if you're in the need of a tuner for your HTPC box. MSI NX7800GTX-VT2D256E SLI Videocards @ pcstats.com [Oct-05-05] (0 Comments) MSI videocards are traditionally some of the best on the market, largely because the company bundles the most value into its products by including lots and lots of extras. The MSI NX7800GTX-VT2D256E PCI Express videocards we'll be testing in this review, in single and SLI mode, each come with a full version of the highly popular SilverStone LC17 HTPC Case @ thinkcomputers.org [Sep-23-05] (0 Comments) Everyone HTPC or Home Theater Personal Computer. When the concept originally came out, I really couldn't see why I wouldwant or need one. As time passed though, I came to realize that much more could be done with an HTPC than just watch movies. Withthe vast new and improved hardware and television sets, the quality just gets better and better. Of course you could go and buy anHTPC, but where is the fun in that? Better to build one yourself, that way it is customized to your needs and wants. As thepopularity of HTPC has grown, more companies are making HTPC cases, and today I have the pleasure of reviewing one fromSilverstone. :3-way i955x motherboard shootout @ hexus.net [Sep-16-05] (0 Comments) What makes a good i955X motherboard? From what we've seen inthis review, it's a combination adding a number of useful discretefeatures to boost a i955X-equipped motherboard to deluxe standard. All three motherboards here carry additional SATA support fromSilicon Image, FireWire800 connectivity, and in the case of the ABITAW8-MAX and Gigabyte Royal boards, dual PCIe Gigabit LAN ASICs fromBroadcom. Both also add in enthusiast-specific features, with ABITopting for heatpipe northbridge cooling and Gigabyte running with apotential 8-phase power supply. MSI NX7800GTX SLI @ viperlair.com [Sep-16-05] (0 Comments) While we have a lot of praise to bestow upon the MSI NX7800GTX-VT2D256E, there isn't much we can say that we haven't already done so for the 7800 GTX in general. It's fast, occupies one slot, and with it, you can really crank up the image quality settings without sacrificing performance. Another thing we liked about the MSI card is it's a great overclocker, which is an achievement in itself given how close to the ceiling the hardware is already running at. [ocnz-news] Nvidia 7800GTX Video Cards Round up- Final Update @ overclockers.co.nz [Sep-15-05] (0 Comments) Out of the eight cards that we've tested, we find MSI 7800GTX to be the best all around choice, with the 2nd highest overclock, an excellent game & accessories bundle, plus a full 3 years warranty to cover your investment. MSI P4N Diamond NF4-SLI Intel Edition Motherboard @ pcstats.com [Sep-15-05] (0 Comments) While the chipset was announced a months ago, nForce4-SLI Intel Edition motherboards are just now hitting the market. MSI Computers new P4N Diamond looks well... like a real gem of a motherboard! Obviously based on the nForce4 SLI Intel Edition chipset, the motherboard supports Socket 775 800/1066 MHz FSB Pentium 4/XE, Pentium D and Celeron D processors as well as a maximum of 4GB of DDR2-667 memory. The way nVIDIA implemented SLI on its NF4 SLI Intel Edition chipset is a bit different than with the AMD version. With the NF4 SLI Intel Edition the first physical PCI Express x16 slot gets lane 0 and all the even numbered lanes thereafter while the second physical PCI Express x16 slot gets all the odd numbered lanes. The included game is based on Doom3's engine and will tap 7800GTX's full potential. From our past experiences, MSI always offers a hefty bundle with its VGA cards. We're going to see just what kind of performance a user can expect from these high-end cards operating in tandem. By now, most consumers should be familiar with SLI benchmarks from 6600GT mid-range nVidia cards, so let's take things up a notch! The blue analog connection is for CRT monitors and the white DVI connector is for digital LCD displays. MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI @ viperlair.com [Jul-22-05] (0 Comments) Working with the Neo4 was a very enjoyable experience with tons of options in the BIOS that allow a multitude of tweaking, in some ways almost too much. I found that this board was pretty picky in some regards (referring specifically to BIOS settings), and it required a significant amount of tweaking at times in order to reach overclocks that I desired with the utmost amount of stability, but after finding out the appropriate settings performed very solidly. MSI Radeon RX800XL-VT2D256E Videocard @ pcstats.com [Jul-08-05] (0 Comments) Things are getting interesting in the video card market once again, mainly because of the ATIs new 'Crossfire' dual-videocard feature. In the mean time, ATI still holds quite an edge in the (single) high-end videocard arena with its range of X800/X850 graphics cards. Today, PCstats will take a look at one of MSI's latest ATI-based cards, the PCI-Express based RX800XL-VT2D256E. Catchy name. The MSI RX800XL-VT2D256E uses the ATI Radeon X800XL core and is backed by 256MB of speedy Samsung GDDR 3 2ns memory. The most notable feature of the card is its dual-DVI connectors, but it also sports a full complement of multimedia abilities including VIVO, and HDTV-out as well as a nice software bundle. MSI Radeon RX850XT-TD256E Videocard @ pcstats.com [Jul-07-05] (0 Comments) PCSTATS is testing the MSI RX850XT-TD256E videocard, which does not feature CrossFire. Based on the Radeon X850 XT, this PCI Express card is backed by 256MB of GDDR3 memory and supports VIVO, TV/S-Video output and component output. The ATi X850 series of GPUs are the current 3D performance leaders and the XT is the second fastest available GPU in the line. As usual for MSI Computer, the software package is among the best on the market and includes full versions of XIII, Uru and Splinter Cell:Pandora Tomorrow. Other software includes FarStone's VirtualDrive and RestoreIT! software as well as CyberLink's DVD Solution software. As with other nForce 4 chipsets, PCI-Express is integrated and the K8N Neo3-F sports a full PCIe x16 slot for video cards as well as a single x1 slot for peripherals. A standard compliment of four SATA 150 ports and two IDE controllers are present, as well as four built in USB 2.0 ports and two more on the included PCI bracket. MSI NX6200TC-TD32E Geforce 6200TC Videocard @ pcstats.com [Jun-17-05] (0 Comments) Economical videocards of today allow users to experience all the same DirectX 9 eye candy that higher end models offer. This is quite a change from the past when both ATi and nVIDIA removed important features out of their low-end graphics processors in an attempt to cut costs. Times have changed for the better, and hopefully this will bring the world of full-fledged PC gaming to more consumers. MSI RS480M2-IL Motherboard @ pcstats.com [Jun-15-05] (0 Comments) I think it's safe to say that ATi actually has a leg up on the competition when it comes to graphics integration. Intel and VIA have been producing decent performing budget chipsets but the two company's integrated graphics options are still lousy on the 3D front. ATi traditionally has excellent 2D/3D image quality and as we've seen so far, it's integrated Radeon IGP is a solid performer good enough for the casual gamer. On dual-layer DVD media, there are two recordable 'layers' which can both store up to 8.5GB of data. Today we're looking at MSI's new DR16-B dual-layer DVD burner. The DR16-B is capable of burning DVD+/-R media at a blistering 16x, DVD+/-RW at 4x and most importantly, dual-layer DVD media at 2.4x. Of course you can still burn conventional CD recordable media and the MSI DR16-B flies along at 40x for CD-R, and 24x for CD-RW. If you have a broadband internet connection, an e-mail attachment is often good enough for small files, but above 10MB or so this becomes impractical. MSI RX800XT-VTD256E @ Viper Lair [Nov-19-04] (0 Comments) The card bundle is one of the better ones out there, though it's a shame ATI (and as a consequence, MSI) no longer bundles a Half-Life 2 voucher which could have made the software package worth getting excited about. Nonetheless, performance is where it ultimately matters, and the MSI RX800XT-VTD256E brings it. MSI RX700PRO-TD256E @ HEXUS [Nov-10-04] (0 Comments) MSI has done a decent job in turning an RV410 GPU into a fully-fledged retail package. £160 or so buys you a competent midrange graphics card and a bundle to rival the best. Too often manufacturers overlook the bundle but MSI hasn't made that mistake. There's games aplenty and documentation is excellent. The choice you have to make is which PCIe GPU to go for. Both NVIDIA and ATI make compelling cases. If you decide that an X700 PRO best fits your needs and budget I can heartily recommend MSI's RX700PRO. Gigabyte G0-M1600B- DVD ROM on Steroids @ t-break [Sep-26-04] (0 Comments) Small Form Factor PCs are being used in lots of different ways and one of the popular ones amongst them is as an HTPC. Although there a few SFF PCs like the MSI MegaPC that offers good multimedia features out of the box, most of them don’t and considering the very limited amount of expansion capabilities offered by SFF PCs, one usually has to decide in advance on how they want to use their PC. With the G0-M1600B, Gigabyte suddenly makes more things possible. MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum @ Viper Lair [Sep-23-04] (0 Comments) The Socket-939 is a step in the right direction for AMD, and the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum would make a fine choice if that is the path you're looking to take. HIS Excalibur X600XT Limited Edition PCI Express Videocard Review @ Tweaknews [Sep-23-04] (0 Comments) HIS's X600XT proved to be an excellent choice if you looking at a more affordable PCI-E videocard option, but still want an excellent card with some excellent features. In this case, the software bundle was second to none and the additional perks like the ramsinks and large VPU cooler will allow the buyer to squeeze a little more free performance out of this videocard for the dollar. This card is all about the extra value for your hard earned dollar. The included backplate was not used, ONLY because the backplate on the MSI K8N Neo is glued on. I compared both plates and saw no visible difference -- with the spacers included, as long as the threads go as deep as the backplate sent by Swiftech, there should be no complication. MSI PCX 5750 Reviewed @ VR-Zone Hardware [Aug-19-04] (0 Comments) The MSI PCX 5750 does have two things going for it: a great bundle and good overclockability. However, those two features are nice, but not nice enough to warrant you to buy this graphics card. Bottom line is that if you are going to be gaming on your new PCI Express system, any card based on the PCX 5750 is not what you should buy. MSI PCX5750-TD128 PCI-E Videocard Review @ pcstats [Jul-28-04] (0 Comments) As the Intel computing world becomes more familiar with PCI-Express, expect more high end, and native PCI-E solutions to crop up. Before we get to far ahead ourselves, let's focus in on the card PCstats.com is testing in this review; the MSI PCX5750-TD128 videocard. The MSI PCX5750-TD128 is a PCI-Express x16 solution based on the venerable nVidia GeForcePCX 5750 core, and comes with 128MB of standard DDR memory running at 500MHz. The bright red card supports S-Video output, and of course comes with all the necessary cables in the box. An additional DVI-to-analog converter is included so users can configure dual monitors if they prefer as well. MSI K8N Neo2 nForce3 Ultra Review @ PC Perspective [Jul-08-04] (1 Comments) The MSI K8N Neo2 motherboard does have a lot to offer any potential buyer. It has solid performance based on a chipset that has solid stability. I didn't run into any problems during installation or the daily use of this motherboard. The bios features are excellent and with a completely working PCI/AGP bus lock, this chipset may become a great overclockers companion. MSI X48 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive @ PCstats [Jul-07-04] (0 Comments) The flexibility to read both DVD-ROM's and burn CD-R/RW discs with just one drive is really nice, and so in this review PCstats will be testing the new MSI X48 combo drive to see how it fairs with each of these tasks. The MSI X48 is capable of burning CD-R media at 48x, CD-RW media at 24x, reading CD's at 48x, and reading DVD-ROM's at 16x. Users of smaller/SFF PC's will be happy to hear that the MSI X48 is only 17CM in length, making for a nice and compact package. Along with what could already be considered a compelling feature set, the MSI X48 includes two interchangeable face plates which allow you to match the colour of the drive with your case. Whether you have a regular white case or a fancy black one, the MSI X48 drive can suite your style. Topping things off, the MSI X48 Combo drive also include a full copy of PowerDVD 5, and Nero burning ROM! MSI NX6800 Ultra Benchmarked @ t-break [Jun-15-04] (0 Comments) The card itself is a monster- pretty much your standard FX6800 Ultra reference design with two power connectors on the back and two DVI connectors along with an S-Video connector on the front. You’ll definitely lose the PCI slot next to your AGP slot due to the mammoth cooling solution. The card is very noisy until Windows is loaded and the fan enters a lower speed mode which is still not very quiet. 939 Motherboard Preview: MSI, Asus and NVIDIA @ pcperspective [Jun-04-04] (0 Comments) The AutoTuning is enabled by selecting a percentage overclock, in our tests we used 5% because anything over that caused the system to lock up when the overclock occurred. This means that the bios would overclock the HyperTransport and internal buses by 5%: from 200 MHz to 210 MHz. This would thereby increase the core clock to 2520 MHz and increase the HT bus to 1050 MHz as well. Chaintech FX5950 Ultra @ RBmods [Jun-01-04] (0 Comments) We have another FX5950 Ultra card for you guys today. Chaintech sent us a sample of their fastest card. We will compare this sample to one we got from MSI awhile back and also vs a normal 5900XT card to see the difference in performance. We will test the card in heavy gaming and also overclocking tests. MSI K8N Neo Platinum nF3 250Gb @ Viper Lair [May-31-04] (0 Comments) If you've been holding out on the Athlon 64, particularly the more consumer based Socket 754 version, the K8N Neo Platinum is as good a reason as any to jump on board now. With the great performance, stability and system level firewall, you won't be disappointed with it. MSI K8N Neo Platinum motherboard review. @ A1-Electronics [May-25-04] (0 Comments) Packed full of features from Gigabit LAN and 7.1 channel audio this top quality MSI K8N Neo Platinum motherboard sets a great standard for others to follow. With rock solid stable operation, bags of overclocking headroom and all the necessary leads included our only gripe with this MSI K8N Neo Platinum motherboard is that there is no matching SmartCard reader to buy option to give that finishing touch to a complete motherboard package. A SmartCard reader is so easy to use and just plain handy. MSI MegaPc 180 barebone @ Rbmods [May-20-04] (0 Comments) Tonite we will look into a barebone from MSI. We got a sample of their Mega180 AMD Xp system. This might be something for those that can't afford a AMD64 system yet. We will benchmark and see what features this small barebone really has. I think this already looks like a nice computer but we have to take a closer look. MSI K8N Neo-FIS2R Platinum NF3-250Gb Motherboard Review @ PCstats [May-19-04] (0 Comments) Now, almost a year after 64-bit AMD Athlon64 processor was introduced, we're getting a taste of nVIDIA's new nForce3-250Gb chipset. It comes care of the very well equipped MSI K8N Neo Platinum motherboard which is based on this latest nVidia chipset. In terms of goodies, the K8N Neo-FIS2R Platinum boasts onboard native Serial ATA/RAID, Gigabit Ethernet, IEEE 1394, an onboard 7.1 audio controller and of course, MSI's well known "CoreCell technology." We'll dive deeper into the technology behind the NF3-250Gb a bit later in the article. 5900XT Shootout @ Bit Tech [May-19-04] (0 Comments) This has been the closest encounter I've had to a dead heat so far, and picking the winner is a tough task. You can't fault either card for raw power, the MSI offers great performance, while the Gainward offers fantastic performance in the price bracket that we're looking at here. On the other hand, the Gainward has all that is necessary to get the card running, but doesn't offer much more than that in terms of the bundle, the MSI offers all that is required to get the card running, and then heaps on top of that too - for a bundle, this is as good as it gets... 9 Days Left in T-Shirt Design Contest @ OCIA.net [Apr-22-04] (0 Comments) (1) MSI GeForce FX 5600 Video Card, (1) TweakMonster Fan Bracket/RAMsink Kit, (1) Swiftech MCX462-V AMD Heatsink, (1) ChillVent I System Cooling Accessory, (2) Vantec Silver Braided UV Reactive Rounded IDE Cables & (1) Floppy Cable, and an OCIA.net T-Shirt featuring your design. Updated! New Amazing MSI Dual-Opteron Motherboard! Updated! @ AMDboard [Mar-16-04] (0 Comments) Coming out at CeBIT 2004 this new socket 940 dual-Opteron motherboard from MSI is reaching new level of features and performances. Just a look to the K8D Master 3 photo will convince the most skeptical observers that we are not dealing with an ordinary piece of layered bakelite... The new server and workstation goddess offers no less than 12 DIMM slots (8+4) which supports Dual-channel Registered ECC DDR 400/333/266 SDRAM, but also Serial-ATA (K8D Master 3-FA4R(M)) or SCSI (K8D Master 3-FS(M)), RAID, Dual Ultra DMA 133/100/66, built-in 64-bit Dual Gigabit Ethernet, 3 x PCI-X slots, 2 x 32-Bit PCI slots, Integrated ATI Rage XL graphics controller, and so many more features that we should better check the specification twice to make sure that we are not dreaming. FIC Radeon 9800 Pro @ COC [Mar-01-04] (0 Comments) We already know our FX5900 is an overclocking champion with a 460/915 overclock, but how does it fair against the FIC 9800? Well we have been able to get our previous 128mb 9800 Pro from Crucial up to 441/337, but with a lot of problems overclocking the memory until some ramsinks were added. The odd part is that after talking with a few people, they had said that 2.8ns memory modules such as the ones on our FIC card were typical, but the 400mhz we were able to get out of our card was not. We're not too sure why this is so, but FIC had mentioned that these 9800 Pro's were a new revision, so perhaps Samsung has a better way of producing the memory. Throwing on our Maze 4 GPU block proved to be a good thing since we were able to get a 454mhz max core clock, and 440mhz for everyday use. We used 440/400 for our testing to represent the average you might get on a FIC 9800. MSI FX5950 Ultra @ Rbmods [Feb-24-04] (0 Comments) Tonite we are having a look at one of the heavy weight champions amongst video cards. MSI sent us their FX5950 Ultra video card for a little test run. This card seems to be a monster by just having a look at the cooler on the card itself. We will compare it to some other commoon cards that are popular on the market at this moment. We will test this in some games and some overclocking of course so this should be interesting. MSI FX5700 Ultra-TD128 Videocard Review @ PCstats.com [Feb-17-04] (0 Comments) In this review we'll be examining the GeForceFX 5700 Ultra powered MSI FX5700 Ultra-TD128 videocard. With 128MB of memory on board, and nice little bundle of software in the box, this should prove to be a pretty good deal for about $280CDN. Surprise, surprise, the MSI FX5700 Ultra-TD128 is based on nVidia's reference board layout, with a few extra additions in terms of cooling. For starters, MSI have added in a set of BGA memory heatsinks on the front and rear of the card to keep the 2.2ns Samsung DDR-II BGA memory running within thermal spec. MSI FX5900XT-VTD128 Videocard Review @ Pcstats [Feb-13-04] (0 Comments) The GeForceFX 5900XT GPU has basically been equipped with some slower memory, and priced it at about half of what a regular GeForceFX 5900 goes for. Naturally, being a top of the line card, the MSI GeForceFX 5900XT easily outperforms the GeForceFX 5700 Ultra, and handily trounces ATi's Radeon 9600XT to boot. In fact nVIDIA may have even put themselves in the awkward position where one product could potentially steal sales away from the other. It's like the GeForce4 Ti4200 situation all over again, but this time more is on the line. 334 results. New search. |
