| Theres been lot of brownouts in the area latetly and I work for an ISP. I lost track of how many tickets I put in for DSL customers requiring a new DSL modem. The techs that go install the modems have been really busy so some people have actually been waiting over a day. Meanwhile, at home my internet has been as stable as usual. In fact I don't remember the last time it was down, other then a full blown multiple minute power outage (we had one recently) or me resetting it (testing stuff from work - I usually test things things on my own modem to not affect customers). UPSes FTW. I have mine set to stay on about 1-2 minutes then shut down everything, so my network stays up for the flickers and very short outages of seconds. It's rated for 45 minutes but I can't seem to trust that so I just save the battery and have it shut down everything properly. The battery life is longer this way. (I've had same batteries in my UPS units for years) |
