UUUmmm-- I think the problem is that XP might be toooooo complicated for you Maybe Win 95? But, serially; I mean seriously, did you WANT XP on both PCs or do you want it on only one? If you want it on one--a different one--copy the two license files to a floppy C:\WINDOWS\system32 wpa.bak wpa.dbl Then, when you are doing the new install & at the initial desktop, it asks if you'd like to register--click no. Then, after you are up & running, copy these two files off the floppy back to your new system32 folder. Depending what mood your system is in -it may or may not prompt you to reactivate, if you have to it's a phone call or online If XP sees more then 4 hardware changes, it may tell you to reactivate--but maybe not. Do yourself a favor for those updates & get AutoPatcher--you'll save yourself A LOT of grief.

well now i had it working for about 3 days but i can't get it to download files because something is screwed up in the computer yet? and it won't install things from the cdrom for some reason some it does but not all. and dumby here forgot about one lic one computer and i put the xp pro on the old winMe computer. now i got no winMe and the xp pro on there wont let me activate it because it thinks its a non legal copy when it is a legal copy, its just i used it on the other computer? dang m$ crap any way. doesn't billy boy have his driveway paved yet. its stupide to make us have to buy several copys of the os. just to put on three or four computers. they sell a special lic. for that but the cost is the price of the number of cdroms you have to buy in the first place. so you pay them for 4 cdroms but only have one.? what kind of sh... is that. they should sell it for 10 dollars per extra computer. that would be common sense which i don't think they have anymore. but looks like i have to pay them another 200 bucks. just to fix the winMe computer. should have made that recovery disk when told to several years ago? oh well. this time on the sony vaio i am not going to try and get the express updates that screwed everything up this time. on a side note.? you ever have trouble remembering which mouse and keyboard to use and which monitor to look at when typing? its a good think i only got one printer?

i came back to this message to tell you. NO WONDER THE DANG THING DID NOT WORK. they had removed all possible ms software they could and still use it as winxp for games. the thing was a mess. i have got a new os on it. one called windows Xp what they had i don't know. must have been mamslinxp or some such concoction of them how did they ever get online with all that mess and outdated modem driver? no wonder it was slooowwooowwooow my sister bought winXp pro to put on it so i did. and the dang thing would not boot up? i had to go all the way back to the factory set up in 2005 its a good thing that they knew to give us the recovery disk or you'd hear me with out reading this. or use of a radio or telephone. but i got winXp pro on it now got every thing back to what should have never been taken off. but you know how those linux and firefox users are. don't want any thing from microsoft. so they mostly jack up the computers if they are not geeks. which lots of them are not. still i have it updating all night now and this morning and it wont seem to install all 97 updates? so it still seems to have troubles. back to it now just wanted to let you know i had to hose all the old crap and put it back on with new stuff.

I can't stand IE7. on the VM server at work I made a ISO image with firefox on it, whenver I make a Windows 2003 server VM for testing, I load up that ISO and install firefox. Microsoft even admits IE is insecure, by default its totally disabled in windows server. Its a jarr really.
rovingcowboy - Jul-31-2007 server time
that figures? why wouldn't it install curupted sometimes? it was made by the same company that released win98 with a known memory leak.
richardj - Jul-30-2007 server time
I'm finding out that IE7 installs corrupted sometimes. After I had to do one of my famous reinstalls of XP (number 99,000,100) IE6 reinstalled, but left the Internet Properties of IE7, which screwed up my mail. I reinstalled IE7 & now it seems ok--for now.

thought about that reformat stuff. only they did not have a winxp cdrom just a recovery disk. we might buy an winXp set up but cant seem to find it cheap enough yet? there's nothing on it i can't redo or re add since i have not put anything on it excepct some updates when i did get it online. i can get them again. its just a paper wight right now. got some other stuff to worry about before i get back to the computer. i like to eat and can't now. got to find a dentist. nobody said not to eat that t bone? did not know it was that hard to crunch? but now i got pain that even 500 mgrams of codine can't get rid of for more then an hour or two. take it from me give them t bones to the dogs and just eat the meat. as for that joke. triple its an old rodney dangerfield joke. " My wife has trouble with the bank machines, the other day she used her card in the computer to get some money, they kept her bank card."

I actually seen a picture of someone pulling out TWO credit cards from a floppy drive. I'll have to try and find it. Probably went like this: wife"Hmm cool, I can use a credit card online, wonder where I insert it? Oh, right here" *submit* wife"invalid card? oh look, it jamed. crap, I can't get it." wife*yelling* "Honey!! Can I borrow your credit card? Mine got stuck in the credit card machine" *inserts*" wife"crap, I just lost your card" husband"ok, we'll have to bring it to a technician, I hope they let us pay with interac or cash"

Why not just format the entire thing and open the cupholder and put a windows home edition cd in there ... Well after removeing the cup that the old user left there of course

got the firefox to work it just needed a reboot in order to show the pages properly. but i still can't get the ie 7 to work ? stupid thing anyway. i use msagents and they don't work in firefox. i need ie. i'll get it working i might have to go all the way back to ie 3 and start upgrading from there. i did that before on one other computer. it just takes time.
Red Squirrel - Jul-27-2007 server time
IE 7 is basically a firefox rip off, but without the security and performance.
richardj - Jul-27-2007 server time
I would STRONGLY advise you to dump IE7 I let that Autopatcher install it & all of a sudden I was getting certificate warnings every time I opened my Win Live Mail. So I went to internet options & the setting boxes were blank That did it for me--it went bye bye
rovingcowboy - Jul-26-2007 server time
now after some time. lets add up the tally. 667.5 + mb's of JUNK FILES some umpteen zillon bad hotkeys. 79 bad code pages. took a day to get rid of the first owner's account. and get my own on there. now ie 7 wont show me any html page, it just says in the title bar " Customize your settings " it does not show any page at all just the shell. i had to install firefox 1.6 on it and upgrade that to the new 2.5 firefox just to get to a web site, it shows them as a one item per line site where you got to scroll down the page for every link? the rest of the 1600 x 2000 screen is all blank except for the firefox shell. but i got to the download page for Ie 7 and redownloaded it. but it still did not fix the error? massisve headache so this is starting to be.

Oh these type of people manage to get crap on their PCs no matter what you do lol. I'd have to disable administrator and make a super restricted user account. Sometimes I feel like doing that. Set iexplore.exe ntfs permissions to system only, deny for everyone. that alone will solve 90% of issues lol. To block rest of issues, disable all ethernet adapters and make sure user has no access to enable them.
Triple6_wild - Jul-26-2007 server time
Im sure theres an A/V scaner that kills spyware also but you make money from dumb users so im sure you dont want to be doing that with every pc lol Spyware would still get on the pc after a while but it would keep those really annoying users out of your hair for at least 2 months
Red Squirrel - Jul-26-2007 server time
For people like that, I just make an image of their PC once I'm done, so when they bring it in, I just reimage and don't even bother to fix it. People like that are also usually clueless about where their own files are so they really don't help themselves when it comes to important stuff. But any other PC shop would not backup anyway so they're lucky I try to get stuff in obvious places like "my documents". But if its in c:\program files\some weird name\data then theyre toast.
Triple6_wild - Jul-26-2007 server time
Sounds like she had a virus or somthing but ya odds are she was just a bad user lol Why didnt you save yourself some trouble and do somthing to protect her pc like umm firefox and a fulltime A/V scaner that also looks for spyware or even blacklisting the major sites that were infesting it? Tho you probly also thought of somthing like that already

I had this lady, she used to totally destroy her computer. I got a weekly phone call to go clean it. I tried to purposely fill a machine with as much crap as I could in a VM, and after 100 spyware programs, I could no longer find any more sites that can hijack my browser or let me download free "games". I really don't know how people do it, by accident.

Ya ive seen that story before Inside some random home... "Oh we just bought a new pc and its REALLY fast and its really powerfull" 6 months later "The computer is so slow so lets just sell this crap and buy another new one" Two days later at someone elses house.... "Damn look at all the junk on this thing ... gonna take me at least 2 hours to clean this mess" "But oh well for 200 bucks i got a 2000 dollar computer so thats basicly being payed 900 an hour to clean it" Must be nice to be stupid AND have money to throw away Even if you pay someone to clean and set it up for you its still cheaper then a new pc as the new one will be slow in a few weeks or months anyways cuz its not gonna be taken care of ethere.
rovingcowboy - Jul-25-2007 server time
i been updating it all night theres been a lot of missed updates on all kinds of programs. also found 144.7 mb's of junk files from just about every advert place on line? but i been looking at the spec's and it seems to have 2 pent 4 3.0 cpu's and only 180 gb hd. not 250, but the dual cpu's kind of makes up for that don't ya thunk? my sister said they wanted a new puter cause this one was slow and the games were needing faster cpus? but if this has two how much faster can you get? i think the slowness is all the junk files and the outdated drivers for the nic and the modem. and every other program.? oh well looks like my sister lucked out on their not knowing how to clean the system and update.
Red Squirrel - Jul-25-2007 server time
dialup? for wow? good luck with that lol But yeah thats definatly a nice system for that price. Would cost over 1k here easily to build/buy that.
Triple6_wild - Jul-25-2007 server time
Sounds like a really nice pc to me ^^ Only 500? what was wrong with it
rovingcowboy - Jul-25-2007 server time
my sister just paid 500 us dollars for a desk top / tower with 3 gig of ram winxp. nivida card, 450 watt power supply and 250 gig serial hd. i think it has a 350 gig cpu? it was set up and used for only gaming. and only on WoW. i think its a good deal the mouse the keyboard the flat screen, the tower, the recovery disk extra ram, extra (400watt) power supply, bundled software. wireless mouse with charger. all for 500 us dollars.? what say you? of course i am updating it now it was behind by 12 updates.. had to install dialup software to get it online but thats no biggy. even got the copy of WoW except i uninstalled it. don't like that game and don't do gaming any more. just spider and freecell. oh great i just realized something? its another system for me to keep updated. i feel like the guy that said " they don't let us out much "
