Last time I went to a .tk site I didn't see any ads or anything. Of course, since then, if I see a .tk I won't click on it
travis - Jul-11-2005 server time
Yeah, I believe thats what they do. I think they might add an ad or two as well, I cant remember I only did it once.
Red Squirrel - Jul-11-2005 server time
Oh ok, so they don't really do the whole dns thing. It's not a "real" domain like a .com, .ca, etc.
Cold Drink - Jul-11-2005 server time
TKs are blind frame wrappers. You hit the .tk, and the address resolves to a web server. The web page has a frameset with a 100% height frame that loads your "real" web page.

Yeah and iceteks.tk is technically a full domainname, it's just that it's not a .com domain which most people want. Really not sure how .tk's work though, and why they can get away with not charging. Maybe they put ads somehow, never tried them.

I think they are being confused as well. What I would do is open up a free subdomain name and then just go to that .tk site and set up your sub domain with them and you can have a short domain name. For example if your freewebs account was www.freewebs.com/iceteks, you could make it www.iceteks.tk for free.

Yeah I see that allot. Domain = pointer to your hosting. So you only need the hosting, but domain makes your url look nicer. Non technical terms here.
MikeDB - Jul-09-2005 server time
Probably.
Streety - Jul-09-2005 server time
Does anyone else here think a domain name and actual hosting are being confused?

Just make sure you aren't getting what you pay for. |
MikeDB - Jul-09-2005 server time

http://www.godaddy.com is the service I use. It had the cheapest prices I could find and the service has been good.
MikeDB - Jul-09-2005 server time
does anybody know where i could get the best domain name for the cheapest price?
| Cold Drink - Jun-30-2005 server time | ||
Hah didn't mean to say I would pay for it |
Pyr-O-Rgasm - Jun-30-2005 server time
www.Dot.tk is a good free domain. It looks just like any other domain((another words no site names or anything you don't want in it)), and it's free.
Streety - Jun-30-2005 server time
I've used www.cjb.net a couple of times in the past. Not much to say really other than that it works.
Red Squirrel - Jun-30-2005 server time
Yeah there's some decent services for short subdomains. That's the best option if you don't want to pay for a domain.
MikeDB - Jun-30-2005 server time
i got it http://eze.endofinternet.net
MikeDB - Jun-30-2005 server time
so you would pay for a domian name for me? Even tho you dont know me?
Cold Drink - Jun-30-2005 server time
I can get you registered for $15/year. You can get them as low as $9 a year. Or you can do this: http://www.dyndns.org/services/webredirect/webhop/

what im thinking about is likt thie (www.yourdmoain.wiz.com) thats what im thinking about now i know about tripod but the domain names are HUGE and are hard to remember.
Red Squirrel - Jun-30-2005 server time
I doubt there's any way to get a free one, unfortunatly. But they're not expensive like some may think. I paid about $200 to register Iceteks till year 2014. You can pay per year of course, I pay 20 bucks or something like that, I forget the exact amount.
