Just to close this out----- I did a repair reinstall of XP & that cured the problem. BUT I'm still not happy with FireFox SIGH

I used Squirrelmail once, it was a bit different and at first I couldn't figure out my own login. But, I never got email on my ECcom email so I never got to test it.

I go http://tools.loc and click webmail.

Um... Well, it really makes sense to use two programs made by the same company that are meant to be used together on the same PC. My dad uses Firefox and Outlook. He really likes both and has no problem with them. Oh well. To check my email I just type in "www.yahoo.com" or "www.gmail.com".

Yeah thunderbird is nice, especially if you use imap, since outlook is not really that great for imap, really ackward. Now if it's exchange, then that's a different story, Outlook is the answer, but not everyone runs an exchange server in their house.

I'm thinking about this too but I think I tried it once & didn't like it but thanks for the reminder |

After doing a Bugzilla search for “mailto”, I found a few bugs that seem to be connected with your situation. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=257969 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=257894 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198547 They don’t seem very helpful, do they? Could you please tell me what program handles the “URL:MailTo Protocol” file type? You can find that out by opening any Explorer window (like My Documents) and selecting TOOLS > Folder Options… and then selecting the “File Types” tab. NOW THAT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE---------I've found this 'mailto' solution myself and looked and----------- THERE IS NO “URL:MailTo Protocol” --LOL NON-NADA AND I can't quite get a handle on how to create one either.

Or you could get Thunderbird and use that instead of Outlook?

Firefox did not cause that though, I still think it's a hijack, or just a genuine Microsoft Screwup.

nOPE NO HIJACK Sometimes a litle box opens & says Outlook Express is not installed properly-it works just fine I noticed though in-internet properties where it shows what program is default email I can only choose Outlook or hotmail --when Outlook Express is the default email this window is -----blank-never saw that before. I think I'll do an XP repair and see what happens. Firefox is not that great as far as I'm concerned.

If all those IE windows open, chances are you got some kind of hijack. Get it cleaned up with hijackthis, and remove the E icon from your desktop to avoid using IE by accident, which will avoid hijacks like this. Make sure firefox is set as your default browser.

Now neither the 'send link' or any email link works from Firefox. If I click on an email link 54 IE windows open with the 'this page cannot be displayed' message appear & if I don't use task mngr quick enough-freezes the PC. I've un & reinstalled Outlook Express & Firefox-I even tried a different release of Firefox. no good Can I go back to IE NOW?
