Did you wipe the drive with the other programs? Since maybe there's a partition that's in a format fdisk won't read or something. I had something similar happen to me before and had to use a low level utility to delete the hex values of the partition table. Obviously this is only a viable solution if you want to wipe the disk completly and start from scratch.

Thanks for the advice, I used Ranish & it worked. I used the CD drive for a couple other fdisk programs and they work also. But the Dos fdisk on the floppy still does not work? I was wondering if the bios or motherboard is keeping me from fdisk on the hd although I can format the hd using the dos or W98 e disk. Thanks for the help.

hmm oddd, it probably uses some unsuported partition. Did you try a different partitioning program?

I have a computer bought from a university with a previously unknown OS. I think autoclave was used on it. I used dos 6.22, W98, W95's fdisk to partition and format the drive for use with W98. Everytime I reboot with the different startup disk to utilize fdisk. Everytime it starts goes to the "large drive" yes or no and hitting either Y or N it goes immediatly to the A prompt. I have had problems before were I have had to use a dos 6.22 fdisk to partition a Nt formated disk but this is new to me?
