I found that if you use Shareaza to search for just about any person's name, it will return some files in the network. I examined these by downloading and trying to browse the source and I have to believe that all these files are fictitious. How does it happen? Has someone managed to put a bot of somekind that is executed whenever the search result is supposed to be nil? This same script or bot may then create a file from a template or rename a ready file to conform to the search criteria. These files, I found out are dubious and are mostly in movie, zip, rar types which contain executables. Some executables tries to open certain money making sites (related to porn and tailored fit to the user's locality) and even contain backdoor virus/worm that will create a hole in the clients pc for someone to peer thru. I have people and especially the creators of this P2P app check on this. Otherwise P2p is in danger.

Versions 2.1.x always had: - reward system - not only file comment, but ghost rating - very good torrent support - best GUI among p2p clients - none kind of malware

Emule doesn't contain any spyware but edonkey does (both connect to the same network). here's the link to the 8MB deal i'm getting: http://www.bulldogbroadband.com/residentia...NP/XP/index.asp My bit torrent speeds will increase at least.
Red Squirrel - Jun-22-2005 server time
Oh wow 8mbit, that's almost LAN speed (well a slow LAN, but faster then most DSL/Cable services I don't think I've ever tried emule, I'll have to give it a try. I hope there's no spyware, I'll have to research first.

Emule downloads are based on a reward system, you have to have a high upload to download ratio in order to get alot of decent downloads, but once you do emule is brilliant- especially for programs, i downloaded a program last night at the speed of 70. I like the file comment capabilities of emule aswell, it saves alot of time by not downloading corrupted files. I use bit tornado aswell- my highest speed on there was 196. I once downloaded 26 high quality music albums from emule in the space of 7 days...didn't like most of them so i deleted them, but that's not the point...rare stuff is there aswell. soulseek used to be brilliant for getting rare stuff but now it just doesn't work for me. [R.I.P soulseek.] emule is good for downloading tv episodes- that's mainly what i download now (via: http://www.the-realworld.de/). will be going off line now for ages as i'm moving house tomorrow but i'll be back soon with an 8MB connection...much fun will be had on bit tornado/Shareaza.

I heard Shareaza sucked. I use to use Kazaa Lite K++. Now Kazaa is shitting out on me. It will start to download the files, I'll check back later and they disappeared, so naturally I'm like, "YAY! IT'S DONE!". Wrong. The file is no where to be found. BitTorrent is my favorite as long as you can find good sites. R.I.P. www.suprnova.org.

Edonkey\Emule is better for large files or rare ones. Mind you in my experience it takes for bloody ever to dl something off of emule unless it's insanely popular. Kazaa\gnutella for smaller and more common files. They're a lot faster, but whether or not you get the file is somewhat more dependent on the whims of other users. Bit torrent is somewhat the best of both worlds, but obviously there are issues about finding what you are looking for in the first place.

[FONT=Arial][COLOR=blue]I agree Shareaza is really good, I use it all the time now. Ive tried all the Bit Torrent clients. Azureus was good but because it pre-allocates space it really slows your pc down. G3 is also a very good Bit Torrent Client. I think One Sharing Network would be a mistake, look at what happened to kazaa network, fake file city. The best clients i think is user preference, as long as everybody shares then really who cares!

That's crazy talk. I've used Shareaza for the past two weeks and have downloaded dozens of movies, all of them perfect. Some are slower than others... version 2.1 came out today and it totally rox. Gnutella2 is way superior to its predecessor.
Red Squirrel - Sep-17-2004 server time
Actually I just tried emule and it is better then shareaza. Less features but it's still under development so hopefully more will be added. I just downloaded a trial of autocad 2005 in like a matter of hours. While shareaza is great for small files, it lacks stability for larger ones.
Rabbit - Sep-16-2004 server time
I use Shareaza as a BitTorrent program... a lot of the older versions really sucked at it, but the latest betas really get rid of most of the bugs. For ED2k, it's almost as good as eMule (Without Kad) at this point...
Red Squirrel - Sep-14-2004 server time
Really I think there's probably not a perfect one out there. The problem is too many networks, somehow all the developers should get together and design one single network. It should be standardized the same way as HTTP is. There's many server and browser choices, but it's one protocol. That would solve allot of the major problems.
Jokfu - Sep-14-2004 server time
Shareaza, is not really better at all, like most jack of all trades programs are, it's either mediocre, or nonfunctional for all of it's protocols...it's best to use each indvidual program, Like say emule to connect to ed2k networks, Azureus to connect to bittorrent trackers(Especially since shareaza has been iffy in reporting info to trackers), or if you don't like hoggy programs, and don't need the easier interface, Shadows BitTornado is good too. I guess it's ok if you want to connect to the kazaa network, although who really wants to go on there now adays with all the crap files. and Gnutella, well it's the protocol that never was, it's slow, cumbersome and not a lot great content either. What you get with shareaza is convincence at a great cost to functionality...
Red Squirrel - Sep-14-2004 server time
I just tried emule and it does not even connect.
Red Squirrel - Sep-13-2004 server time
Something to try. I never heard of Azureus before though I'll have to give that a try too, and might even review it.... here's the new plan I should review all the p2p programs
QTrue - Sep-13-2004 server time
I strongly suggest people try out eMule. It’s the #1 download on SourceForge.net, the world's largest Open Source software development website with over sixty-four million downloads!!! It is open source, spyware and adware free and has a very mature network with over 300 million files! I highly recommend it over Shareaza.
digitalwanderer - Sep-13-2004 server time
Shareaza is a good bit torrent client, and probably the best to introduce people to bit torrents with....but Azureus really does kick it's butt in the performance department. I used to use Shareaza, now I swear by Azureus.
Teejay - Sep-13-2004 server time
so it might be all inclusive and all .. but I tried it for its eDonkey features.. and its like optionless.. I couldnt even find a way to load a serverlist..it just "connected".. how crap is that.. its unbeliveably crappy.. and it hardly found any results at all.. to be any good it would like need to have the entire emule and bittorrent clients FULLY integrated with ALL the options they have.. it may be good for gnutella but its so underdeveloped for bittorrent and emule its just useless junk...
Maybe nice, but damn slow - Sep-13-2004 server time
U'r right its well designed and user-friendly, but its slow as hell. For example look at your pictures...10 DL and 40 Upload speed. If u wanna have a nice speed join the bittorrent network! Use BitComet or Azureus! Have a nice Day!
Beastage - Sep-13-2004 server time
Behind any doubt the best, problem is its not popular enough everyone that know something about computers know about shareaza but most people dont know anything and they stick to that horrible bloated pos spyware kazaa
Red Squirrel - Sep-12-2004 server time
http://www.iceteks.com/articles.php?act=vi...e=shareaza&p=1& With the RIAA terrorists crashing into file sharing, attacking Napster, Morpheus, KaZaA.... file sharing seems to have collapsed since then. Not to mention that allot of P2P programs now have spyware in them. Well Shareaza comes to the rescue and rebuilds the file sharing community! It is a great spyware-free program that will make P2P stronger.
