Last update had all that changed, mid august is the new release date, and even that will be hard to achieve. stupid long work hours. I get home, eat, then it's nearly time for bed which sucks. Only time I can work on it is thusday nights.

SquirrelBBS 0.1 Should be released at the end of July 2004 as long as things continue to progress at this rate, which I'm sure they will.

What's really left to do now is to go around looking for obvious bugs that stand out, test obvious security flaws (such as forging a form to be able to post in an unauthorized area) After all the testing, I will have to decide on how the admin CP will work. I have the thought of fully integrating it into the forum, or have a separate CP like most forums do. I also need to implement things such as deleting posts and threads, but that may wait till 0.2.

and your fellow icetekies are supposed to help debug lol

sorry but i was just poking around the forums on ochq and remembered you were making squirrelBBS (dont ask lol just came to mind for reasons unknown) roflmao.gif

It's unofficial if it's not posted on the official squirrelbbs site. tongue.gif well I look at it that way anyways em317.gifq

Why'd you call these "unofficial"? You're the only official working on the project!
Didn't we already cover this? tongue.gif

There will be a slight chance, instead of having a preview button and a post there will be a checkbox for preview. I stayed up till 2 last night trying to figure out how to handle a form with two buttons and know which one was pressed. em320.gif No luck! So far the skin is W3C compliant too! Once I have an online version of it I'll validate every page to make sure. The only thing is that IE sometimes requires non-W3C compliant code for things to work properly. But as long as it looks good in most browsers is what counts, and most people make their own skin anyway which is what I would expect for any forum.

Got some stuff to do today but when I'm done I'll probably work on it most of the day. I'll probably work on getting posting permissions working too. Basically what I want for beta 0.1 is a simple forum where people can register and post. em320.gif

Yeah, you can give your forms background images and everything. You can also use the pseudo-classes. One that may be of interest to you is the :focus pseudo-class. The border could slightly change color or something for the focused text field…

That looks really good, monsieur. smile.gif

Post screen. dancingbanada.gif

LOTS more to do though, such as actually implimenting the post screen to work. tongue.gif

But I really like the fact that I can edit forms with CSS. I did not figure it would work until I tried it. So that means I don't have to worry about width as I can set it with css so it fits any window size well.

For some reason allot of BBSes don't use this.

I felt the need to post these, but since it's far from even looking productive, I'm not going to do an official update just yet on the SBBS site, but here are some screen shots of some of the work so far. There's still LOTS to do. Even the simple things like the nav links I did not figure out completly yet, I can't figure out how to make it like a directory where it goes index -> forum -> subforum1 ->subforum2 etc so for now it will be index - > location for everything, and for forums there will be an [up] option to go up one forum.

Right now the forum does not really support categories, but that will change, probably by the beta. But it does support unlimited sub forums.

It's making the code efficient that's the hard part, minimizing sql queries etc... is challenging to consider all the background work that goes on.

Anyway, here's the screen shots. dancingbanada.gif
