Media Arts -> Mass PNG Conversion

No worries. I got what I needed done, that's all that counts.

Irfanview is a rather handy program. I won't say it's the best, kind of a jack of all trades\master of none, but it's really good considering the fact that it's free with the features it has.

Sorry for not replying...

I've never had to do that before. I'll have to test out Irfanview's batch conversion... smile.gif

heh, not replies at all. Well nevermind I figured it out on my own.

I was able to use Irfanview to do the conversion. It seems do have done a pretty good job as even though I ran pngcrush afterwards, the difference in size was very minimal [we're talking maybe a half a mb or so over 190 files]. File size came out pretty good once I pulled down the color depth.

Probably just a question for tak, but since the boards been dead, I'll ask it in the open.

Basically I got a bunch of high quality TIF mangascans that I want to resize and convert to PNG with the best quality possible while still having respectible file sizes. And we're talking HQ stuff here, the TIFs are about 1500x2100 for single pages, 3000x2100 for 2 page spreads, making for pages that are about 2mb per page on the low end and up to 25mb for color covers and stuff. Now I'm all for HQ, but I don't need to see the iniest dot of ink and grain of the paper. Now the color pages, I should probably convert to jpeg seperately, I don't think I'm going to get nice file sizes with that color depth. But for the rest [black and white] I want to resize to about 60-65% and convert to png with the smallest possible file size without sacrificing quality. Up to this point I've been using jpegs, and can get decent quality at between 60-75mb per volume [originaly around 200-250mb in TIFs] and I'm looking to get something like that or better in PNG.

So I'm looking for tips and proggies to convert these files en mass, as I ain't going to convert 200 pages per volume by hand...
