Trendware 2 port KVM switch review
Use two PCs with one keyboard, mouse and monitor
By Red Squirrel

Are you in a situation where you need to control more then one PC, but don't have room for a keyboard, mouse and monitor for each one? If yes, there's a solution. A KVM switch will enable you to switch from one PC to the other, using the same keyboard, monitor and mouse. Some cheap KVM switches require you to manually turn a knob, physically disconnecting the keyboard, video and mouse from the other PC and connecting it to the new one, while some better quality ones will electronically switch, keeping the connection intact on both PCs as it will emulate a plugged in keyboard, monitor and mouse in disconnected PC(s). This is good as you don't have to worry about "loosing" the mouse, which sometimes happens on the manual ones. Also, if you reboot both machines at once, it will still detect the keyboard and mouse for the one switched off.

Some KVMs only have room for 2 PCs, which is referred to as "2 port", while some have 4, and I've even heard of 16. Depending on the use, there's one that's good for you.

In this review, we will look at a 2 port KVM switch that I bought for my business, and realized it was very good, and even worth reviewing. I have a 4-port switch for the server room, but it's a manual one and while it gets the job done, it never really impressed me all that much, and sometimes I need to play around with the knob to get a good video connection with decent colors. But this switch is solid state and electronically switches like mentioned above, so there's no problem with partially connected video and such.

On the next page, we'll start from installation to using.
